Thanks for your reply. I have already asked my recommenders to prepare my recommendation letters. I have already drafted the points to be placed in my essays. Is there something that i have missed. What would you suggest me to do at now and please tell me which schools i can aim at and the deadline i can meet.

Okay then, which schools will you be applying to?

You will need to take either the TOEFL or the IELTS. It pretty much doesn't matter, so that the one that gives you test dates when you want is the one to go with. In the meanwhile good luck on your GMAT!

Well Maggi, with a 640 pretty much all those schools will be out of range. Maybe Olin will be possible, but the others...

Congratulations!! That's much better! Stern will still be tough with that score, but it becomes a POSSIBLE tough, which is much better than with a 640! Probably schools in your range are schools ranked about 20-50. Check their GMAT average. If it's higher than what you have, it will probably be a bit tough (there are many other criteria of course, but it's a good place to start)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Does applying in R1 makes a big difference. Tofel dates are not available till oct 29. However ielts is available on oct 10. Most of the schools are having deadlines around oct 15. Is it ok if i take tofel after submitting the application? By suggesting the 20-50 schools you mean 20-50 schools in the world ranking?

Applying R1 makes a small difference, but it's much much better for you to wait and to apply with a perfect application than to rush things. So apply R2. By 20-50, yes I mean in the rankings. Although this is VERY approximate.

As per your suggestion below are the us bschools that come under 20-50 range
UCLA: Anderson
Cornell University: Johnson
University of Michigan: Ross
University of Virginia: Darden
Rice University: Jones
Georgetown University: McDonough
Carnegie Mellon: Tepper
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
University of North Carolina: Kenan-Flagler
University of Texas at Austin: McCombs
Emory University: Goizueta
University of Maryland: Smith

Am i competetive towards the top 5 among these. I am looking for a scholarship as well. Is it ok if i submit the application and then go for tofel and report the scores to the schools?

Maggi,
Like I wrote it my early post, I don't think you really have enough experience to apply to business school at the moment. I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I don't think that if you applied to the schools above now, you would see much positive response. I'd suggest waiting two more years, and if you think you can get STILL higher on your GMAT then consider taking it one more time.

Best,
