Area of interest in MBA : Private Equity, Finance

GMAT: 730 48Q 42V
GPA: 3.49 (3.67 for Major), Top 30 Public School
BS in Accounting

Nationality: Asian
Age: 27
Gender: M
Extra-curriculars/community: active member of local volunteer organization, site captain for annual event that has over 8000 volunteers, participated at 2009 JPM Corporate Challenge, served in financial helpline to help people who are facing difficult times, helped to prepare material for non for profit organization sponsored by my company.

Work experience(WE):
Licensed CPA, passed all 4 parts on the first try

8 months of accounting at a Fortune 500 government consulting company
1 year of real estate asset management at a local construction giant managing shopping malls, commercial buildings, and investment funds.
3 years of accounting experience at top private equity firm involving various tax and GAAP work, pre and post IPO reorganization, got promoted to senior last year and currently managing 2 staffs.


Goal:
Be able to change my career from accounting to finance. Become an analyst at large private equity firm involving buyout deals

I would like what are my chances if I apply to the following schools. Do you have any recommendation on what other school I should look at?

Wharton
Duke
Carnegie Mellon
UT Austin
Georgetown

Leo,

You have a strong profile across the board, with some professional leadership, a good extracurricular record, good GMAT etc. Wharton is your "long-shot" school, but if you execute well (accentuate leadership, project personality), you could certainly get in there. You are certainly competitive at Duke and CMU, UTA, and Georgetown are semi-safeties for you. I might advise you to soft-pedal the PR goal since it's a really common one and the openings just are not vast there. But in terms of finance school you should consider I would mention these: Cornell, Virginia, NYU, UNC.
