Hi guys,
Hi jaslinsingh25, thanks for asking about your profile. Will answer below.
I have a work experience of 3 years in Customer Service Profile. My GPA is 3.0

Now, I am looking at applying for a B-school for 2018 intake. My gmat is scheduled for Sept.

Please suggest A good college which has an MBA course/specialisation in digital marketing in US. Not sure how this ended up on Kellogg page- and Kellogg certainly has some real marketing firepower- but you'd need a killer GMAT to help prop up the 3.0 gpa that's a bit under the average there. Some listings on programs offering digital marketing focus is here: https://www.mbastudies.com/MBA/Marketin ... Marketing/

I have researched and see only Pace university offers MBa in marketing management with digital marketing as an elective. However, I am not sure about this university as it is unranked. If anyone has any reviews about this program, then please share, Having lived in NYC in past, I can say that Pace is more of the "local" school- but being local in NYC is still the big time and if you talk to Pace and feel like they can help you get to the job you want,
I think this can be a viable path for you. Beyond just "brand" you do want to be sure the school prepares you for your next steps so I also encourage you to talk to career management folks there and see if this is the case for you! Best wishes.

Thanks

Rooting for you to get in. Do keep us posted on how things go, both in terms of admissions, and (later) in terms of the program - your perspectives. Would love to have them. All the best!

Hi, I have some time before applying and wanted to benchmark:

Age 27 at matriculation, Asian American Male

Undergrad: Top 12 non-ivy private university (Northwestern, Duke, JH), Econ Major
GPA: 3.52
GMAT: 690 (will retake and aim for a 730)

Work:
2 years in management consulting at a global tier 2/3 firm, started out doing implementations and moved to do strategy in financial services
1.5 years of work on an internal strategy team at a large financial services firm, focusing on innovation topics

Extras:
Outside of college:
Head of recruiting team at management consulting firm for alma mater, served on national board within management consulting firm for diversity efforts, served on leadership board for alumni, founded youth sports organization. Then moved cities and currently don’t do anything extra.

During College:
College varsity athlete for a non-revenue generating sport, 2 year letter winner and started, chartered a business fraternity and led its direction for 3 years, executive board in cultural organization

Goals for MBA:

I got like 1.5 years before I apply – any tips, chances, thoughts on how to boost my application? I plan on finding some additional extracurriculars in the new city I moved to.

I'm not an admissions consultant so take my opinion with a grain of salt but I would definitely work on getting that GMAT up for sure and you probably need to better define your goals. Right now your profile comes off a little generic and like you are going to get an MBA because it's the normal route for consultants rather than because an MBA would help you achieve your goals. If you can define your goals to be a bit more specific such as picking an industry and then maybe see if you can tie in your EC's or past experience into those goals, you will be in good shape. You need to be able to articulate what your career goals are, why you chose them, and how an MBA will get you there. Just my two cents..

Well besides the obvious of boosting your GMAT to 720+, I definitely think you can use more breadth in your profile - be it volunteer work, extra curricular activities, entrepreneurial work, perhaps all of the above???

That and of course not just "Being in consulting" but "Being the BEST in your firm" are the things that will really make your profile stand out.

I can also say that since you are planning this far ahead (a FANTASTIC idea) start your networking at your target schools NOW!!! And plan visits to the schools you most want to go to when schools are in session this year.

I wish you all the best,
Jon Frank

hi Vvorobyo9474, let me review your profile below.

Hi,
Just applied to Kellogg Part Time Program and had my interview August 1st.
Got the following Stats:
GMAT: 620 (34V/42Q)
GPA: 3.9
Working experience: Project Engineering for Heavy Machinery Design Firm for over 70 months
Age: 34
Career Aspirations: Brand Management, Strategy consulting, even I realize I might be a little too old for that.
You have an excellent GPA! Hopefully you can leverage some of your management (either projects and/or people) as you describe your work. For consulting many firms look at GMAT and your score may be a little challenging for those roles- I could see you making an excellent transition to brand management especially within heavy machinery or industrial roles. Be clear on the skills you hope to improve at Kellogg- financial knowledge, leadership...

Best wishes!

Thanks for your advice.

GMAT: 690 (will retake and aim for a 730)

2 years in management consulting at a global tier 2/3 firm, started out doing implementations and moved to do strategy in financial services
1.5 years of work on an internal strategy team at a large financial services firm, focusing on innovation topics

focus on your results and not just what the role was. How did you make things happen while at these places?
During College:
College varsity athlete for a non-revenue generating sport, 2 year letter winner and started, chartered a business fraternity and led its direction for 3 years, executive board in cultural organization Impressed by varsity athlete role and the good grades

1. Switch industries, get into general management or continue in strategy

I got like 1.5 years before I apply – any tips, chances, thoughts on how to boost my application? I plan on finding some additional extracurriculars in the new city I moved to.
We have a great program for your situation- we offer an "early advantage" program where we work with clients a year or more out from MBA application and do an audit of all the key areas- we'd review your transcript, GMAT, work, leadership and suggest actionable steps in each area for you to work on to strengthen your profile so that by the time you apply you have identified and shored up any weaknesses. To learn more about this option- do a free consult with us at this link and we can have a counselor explain it more and point out areas to work on: https://stratusadmissionscounseling.com ... b-visitor/ Also sign up for our free newsletter here: https://stratusadmissionscounseling.com ... dmissions/
One area I suggest you work on is leadership- think not just about the role but how are you going to tackle a problem that one of these organizations is facing. Then talk about the results and what you and the team you led did to address the issue. Also spend time even now researching programs and career options post MBA and look for how programs will help you reach your goals. Best wishes!

Nationality: Indian
GMAT: 750 (Q50, V42)
Undergrad: Non-IIT, Top 25 engineering school
Undergraduate GPA: 3.6

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to evaluate my profile! I'm currently in the process of applying in R1 as my intention is to get into a MBA program in 2018 by the latest. I would love to get into Kellogg, but my strategy is not to wait for R2 after a possible GMAT retake, as I don't want to hurt any chances of getting admitted into other schools at later rounds. I would love to hear your feedback.

Age: 29, Canadian (Korean by background - immigrated when I was 13)

Undergrad: Chemical engineering at one of the finest engineering schools in Canada (University of Waterloo)

GPA: 3.7(?) - School used % instead; 83/100
GMAT: 690 (Q48/V36/AWA6/IR6)

Work: 5 years of Production Engineering experience in the upstream oil and gas industry with Shell
- Survived 3 possible layoffs due to divestment of the assets I was supporting
- 1 year based out in remote location (Northern Canada) to develop Operations engagement. During the role, independently handled a well's blow out and prevented safety/environmental damage
- 1 year international broadening assignment in Houston as a Joint Venture Analyst. Developed M&A experience, corporate strategy, and risks assessment
- With Shell's partial exit from Canada, I was packaged with the assets for a sale to a Canadian upstream company

Goal: To dive into product/brand management in consumers product industry

Extracurricular:
- Big Brother for 2 years at Big Brothers Big Sisters
- Mentorship Committee Chair for 1 year at New Professionals Network of Canada at Shell
- Traveling: Since graduation, I've had at least one backpacking trip every year (19 countries - with 3 weeks trip in Southern Africa being the latest)

Thanks for sharing your profile bigbirdferda you have an ok profile but your GMAT will make things tough for you at Kellogg as the avg has now grown +730. Now the GMAT is not the end all be all and i think your thought process is sound, giving yourself more opportunities in R2 to reevaluate your gameplan, but realize your GMAT won't help you.

I do think you should have some good fodder for the essays surviving all of those layoffs, hopefully you have some strong learnings from those experiences. kellogg is big on these type of narratives so make sure you are personalizing your application package as much as possible to give yourself the best chance of success

Hey Karthik thanks for sharing your profile. I really like your background, a bit more unique than the avg indian applicant so it will be your responsibility to make sure the Ad Comm recognizes this and your achievements are properly highlighted.

Your stats are strong and will be a fit for Kellogg, now its up to you to translate all of this into an admit. Your story at this point will be super critical in your ability to create a successful application

Thanks so much for taking the time to evaluate my profile!

Do you think that I'd be disadvantaged if I apply in R2 instead of R1?

Hey Karthik - I always prefer pushing for R1, there are more spots available and it gives you more flexibility when setting your R2 strategy, especially if you get dinged by your R1 schools. Also, do you don't have to apply to all of your schools R1 so look at your school deadlines and figure out the strategy that works for you

Hi all,

I would appreciate any feedback you could provide on my profile.

- 26-year-old American white female
- 720 GMAT (46Q/44V)
- 3.71 GPA from small liberal arts college in mid-atlantic region (Tier 1 but not a top 50 school); double major in Econ and English
- Work experience at time of application includes 4 years at three different firms: 1 year at a consulting firm, 2 years at a strategic research group of a PR firm, where I worked primarily on branding engagements and I was promoted after one year, ahead of schedule, 1 year at current firm, a boutique strategy consulting firm (work is very market research-heavy). Each job has equipped me with increasing responsibilities (not to mention more money)
- Goal: Work at a top brand consultancy or specialize in branding/marketing consulting at a broader consulting firm; I am especially interested in strengthening my quant skills to ensure brand strategy is truly data-driven
- Extracurriculars: Not going to lie, this feels like a weak spot to me as I have moved around quite a bit geographically but: Pro-bono consulting from Jan 2017 to present, freelance market research gigs, recruitment for current company as well as informal mentoring of potential candidates outside of work, organizer of book/movie club from March 2017 to present; I also lead onboarding at my firm and have re-vamped the program (I have some other random ECs from before I moved to my current city but not very significant)

Thank you in advance!

You have a nice profile here with your data points falling in line at Kellogg for the most part. You are on the younger end of the spectrum and have bounced around a bit, which can be problematic but your rationale seems to support each move and if your salary has continued t go up admissions will see that in the application. Also, b-schools in general still skew more male, so being a woman especially at Kellogg should with school continuing to focus on creating a balanced classroom. Kellogg has admitted record numbers of women the last few years so this should be in your favor. Strong work experience and some well aligned career goals should make you a fit at Kellogg given the school's historic career focus on marketing and consulting.

Kellogg really tends to focus on ECs which you highlighted may be a weak are for you so make sure to focus on your leadership experiences in the few EC you have been a part of and make sure to communicate how you plan to be even more involved at Kellogg with direct call outs to specific programming at the school.

You should be competitive for admissions at Kellogg

- Survived 3 possible layoffs due to divestment of the assets I was supporting
- 1 year based out in remote location (Northern Canada) to develop Operations engagement. During the role, independently handled a well's blow out and prevented safety/environmental damage
- 1 year international broadening assignment in Houston as a Joint Venture Analyst. Developed M&A experience, corporate strategy, and risks assessment
- With Shell's partial exit from Canada, I was packaged with the assets for a sale to a Canadian upstream company

Goal: To dive into product/brand management in consumers product industry Kellogg is a great place for this- and you have some positives- such as giving back to community and mentoring, M&A experience, staying power in keeping your job in challenging times! I think you'll need to help connect the dots for Kellogg about why you want to move from oil and gas to CPG and think about how what you have done in the past can help you be successful in your new area of interest. Not a clear path so be sure to address that somewhere in your application. Also it would help to up the GMAT a bit if you can stand to take it again. I encourage you to talk to current Kellogg students once they are back on campus (a few from 1YR and MMM are there now in summer but their quarter system does not head back to class until mid-late Sept if I remember correctly from my days there! Extracurricular:
- Big Brother for 2 years at Big Brothers Big Sisters
- Mentorship Committee Chair for 1 year at New Professionals Network of Canada at Shell
- Traveling: Since graduation, I've had at least one backpacking trip every year (19 countries - with 3 weeks trip in Southern Africa being the latest)[/quote]
