GMAT is 710 Q49, V37

I have one really great and another alright recommendation letter.

Please evaluate and suggest. for R2

First of all, your profile looks good, with a lot of concrete accomplishments, impressive career and all that. Volunteer experience and education also looks good.

The only issue that I can see straight away is that you are a bit off GMAT wise which is not the best thing if you are from India, as I am sure you may already know. High GMAT scores are generally expected from Indian applicants, so this is really the only red flag I can see straight away. (Along with the "alright" recommendation letter, I guess. Any chance that could be improved?)

Therefore, you really need to make sure you essays will be amazing. Feel free to be in touch if you’d like professional help with that part (ARINGO does specialize in low GMAT applicants, and while your GMAT is not low for most applicant groups it is for Indians and the school you’ve chosen).

Either way: great profile besides that and good luck!

Hi Guys, I am a long time lurker on this site and have finally decided to go ahead and pursue an MBA, I was just wondering I could get an honest profile evaluation of what my chances are of getting into Kellogg

I am applying to the full-time program at Kellogg and would love to get feedback on what my chances are.

Age: 25, New Zealand citizen (Bangladeshi ethnicity - I grew up in NZ, but am currently working in Australia)

Undergrad: Civil engineering at a top 50 engineering program in the world at time of graduation and top university in NZ(University of Auckland)

Postgrad: Master of Engineering focused on Engineering Management (construction, risk, project) - Please also keep in my mind I completed my Masters full time whilst also working full time as I was responsible for the delivery of a multi-million dollar project so taking time off wasn't really an option. Same university as the undergrad.

Undergrad GPA: This is my obvious weak point it's at 2.9 if I take into account my first year (which is actually not counted at Auckland university), otherwise, it's a 3.25

Postgrad GPA: this is a more respectable GPA of 3.6

Work: 3.5 years work experience, with clear progression in scope. My background has been until recently heavily involved in the delivery of large-scale construction projects (managing all aspects of such projects), but I have recently made the switch Infrastructure Advisory as I prefer the high-level strategic thinking that comes with it. I intend to naturally progress from here into management consulting. I am currently with Aurecon a significant player in the Engineering Consultancy space.

Goal: I am really only looking to get into MBB if not will settle for tier 2 consultancies.

GMAT: Just started studying so no official score yet. I took a prelim practice exam with zero prep and scored 620, and I am confident I can get around the 730 mark.

Do I have a shot at getting in?

Thanks in advance!

So Hi Nik96! Thanks for reaching out. I will say just glancing here- that there is a lot to like- the 760, doing well at BITS Pilani, the 3 CFA levels and the JP Morgan i banking experience. So there is nothing in this info that would keep you out. You need to make sure you put a good application together and this is where a firm like ours can help- now with the big R2 Kellogg round just passed- you might want to wait until next year to apply and spend some time in the spring really preparing and so you will be ready. You will certainly have the best odds going in R1 rather than R3 so keep that in mind. Here is a link that can get you 5% off any of our services and would be a free consultation to learn how we can help:

https://stratusprep.com/admissions/busi ... b-visitor/

I'd say good odds for Kellogg, Booth pretty good but application volume way up this year so may be a competitive year, look good for Yale and Sloan is very competitive also this year so the odds are so low there just in general it is hard to say- I would definitely try for R1 Sloan and Booth if you want to do that next year. I think this year's ship has sailed... although with Sloan for 1/17 deadline if you hurried you could do that R2- especially if you had some hourly counseling with us. We have counselors with deep expertise at MIT and a few hours could really help you put together a stronger application! Best of luck to you- and get in touch to find out how we can help!

liu86wasan I would say you will have a difficult chance applying to the 1Y program in R3. I think on paper you are probably a borderline candidate if I am reading your profile correctly. If you're going to target R3 your application has to be really top flight. The 1Y program is extremely competitive at Kellogg

tanzimislam You will need to hit that 730 to have a shot at Kellogg, there is not enough other unique or exemplary elements to your profile to carry up your GPA that is below the school avg. So focus on that GMAT so you're competitive and then work on creating a rock star application

amandeep_k I really like your profile an background as a woman in the health care industry. The entrepreneurship angle also adds an additional wrinkle and you have identified a program at Kellogg that aligns well with your interest. If you could sneak up your GMAT a bit you would really be in good shape here

Thanks for sharing your profile. I think you have a chance here. Good and unique work experience for your demo, good academics, your GMAT is a bit low which will cause you the most concern but if you wrote some strong essays you could be in play here.

Hey guys - please let me know if I have a strong profile and any areas to focus on improving. Also curious if my GMAT will be an inhibitor given my background.

Demographics: Age 25, Male, American

GMAT: 720 (Q48 / V40)

Education: BS in Finance and Economics from a top 50 public university; 3.6 GPA; 3.9 Major GPA

Work Exp: 2 years in Investment Banking; 2 years in Private Equity (upon matriculation).

Extracurriculars: Volunteer as a mentor/coach for disadvantaged local community college students; In undergrad, started a for-profit student consulting organization.
I am a Kellogg grad and I did the 1 Y program many years ago. When I think about how you would have fared compared to my peers in that program- and granted much has changed since then so this is not necessarily 100% the way it would be now- what I see that stacks up nicely is your GPA and your GMAT is certainly in striking range. What also is good is your work experience and if indeed you want to stay in PE or something similar post MBA then you don't need the internship experience. Now if somehow I am reading it wrong and it is just 2 yrs then the work experience is too light- but if you are in fact 4 yrs total work- which makes sense for your age- then I'd say you have a shot. A lot depends on how you present yourself- and how good a job you do convincing adcom that Kellogg is the best place for you to grow both personally and professionally. I'd say that you should give it a shot! If you want to have someone review your essays or discuss your profile in more detail to make sure you are presenting yourself in the best way possible, here is a link where you can learn more about our firm and how we help people just like you present their best selves in the application process: https://stratusprep.com/admissions/busi ... b-visitor/

Best wishes... and if it does not work out this year- use this time of learning more about Kellogg to be ready to go and pull the trigger R1 next year if you need to! But I wish you all the best if you go for it now!

Thanks for sharing, you have a strong profile with a GPA that is slightly below avg but in range and an exceptional GMAT score, B-schools still skew male so as a woman this certainly helps you a bit. I would make sure your career goals align with the expectations of someone graduating from a 1yr program. I think you have a good shot at an admit. Scholarship is also a potential as well so make sure that application is air tight and helps you stand out

My question is, is it too late for me for a second MBA in US or Europe? Thanks you for your answers.

You sound like the ideal target candidate and I don't think that it is out of reach to have a scholarship if you can put together a really compelling application. I would encourage you to look at some admissions consulting firms- your best bet is to start working in late spring on understanding your story and motivations and then be ready when new application questions released in early summer to start in earnest and be in R1 for 2017. That is your best path to scholarships. To find out how we could help, go to this link https://stratusprep.com/admissions/busi ... b-visitor/

I suggest you really study for the GMAT as you will need an extra high score to compensate for the lower GPA. I di think you have a shot if you put together a really compelling application.
