"have been taken years ago" makes me confused.

But finally go for E.

Wait for the OA

I agree. E ends up including this: measures have been taken years ago, but this really should have been in one of the past tenses. If in another sentence we wanted to include something like this, we'd need to put a should or a may in front of the have.

What is the source of this question?

None of the answer choices is correct.

Clearly, ‘increasing global deman...’ is singular. So, verb must be singular ‘is’ rather than plural ‘are’. Eliminate A and B.

C uses ‘like’ to give examples. Hence, C is gone.

D gives us a distorted meaning stating that awareness programs and stricter laws along with increasing demand are putting animals in danger. Bye bye D.

E uses present tense for an event that already happened in the past: measures were taken in the past and usage of ‘have’ is wrong.

We are left with nothing to select.

Useless musing: GMAT gives us 5 options and all of which are wrong. What happens? ???

That won't normally happen (they have quality checks in place), but if it does, you should just mark something and move on. :)

The procedure the GMAC recommends is to report the question to the proctor, who will note the question number (but not the question!) and give it to you after your exam. I don't think they'll give you any extra time though, so this is a risky thing to do.
