Hi Alex! Your thoughts on my profile would be much appreciated.
A few things about myself:
Undergrad from a top university in the Philippines.
Major in Communication
GPA - 3.51 (but with bad math grades! Got a D in Calculus because I really felt back then that I had no use for math as a communication professional); thinking of taking online math courses (with quizzes/exams) to show how my professional experience has improved my quantitative skills
GMAT - 710 (47Q 41V)
Extracurricular activities:
I was treasurer/VP for finance for my major's official org (ran fundraising campaigns and handled university-provided funds)
Three years as a facilitator of a freshman course on school culture, activities, and traditions
Previously a Sunday school teacher to primary-level children
Active in church music ministry
Work experience (a little over 5 years):
I was a management trainee for a year (2007-2008) at a leading telecommunications company in my country. Afterwards, I was deployed full-time as a product marketing manager handling mobile Internet, doing business cases, product costing, and pricing analyses. Got promoted to manager level in 2010 (but still an individual contributor, no direct reports). In 2011, I became head of a team, still handling the mobile Internet business.
Post MBA goal:
I plan to go back to my country after getting an MBA, and work my way up the corporate ladder to become a leader in the telecom/tech industry. There's so much to be done in the Philippines in terms of innovation, and I think business leaders are in the best position to influence the government to support these innovations.
Target programs: undecided
A few questions:
1. Which schools would best fit my career aspirations and would be logical/realistic choices given my background?
2. How could I make myself stand out more?
3. Do you think it's necessary for me to take those online math courses?
