Possible MBA programs? Some out of reach?  [#permalink]

Hello, I'm currently scouting schools. A few I have in mind:

One-year at Notre Dame
Ohio State

Reach: Columbia

My GMAT from my two practice test hovers around 630ish.
My GPA is around 3.0.

I've been working 4 years, but have held 7 positions, most concurrently. From managing staff writers when I was a journalism undergrad, to moving to engineering and then being a student consulting for one company while being a project manager at the same time for another while in school. Currently, I'm a systems engineer whose work impacts thousands of end users and have even managed to get personnel changes, manage a personal website I grew from 2,500 unique visitors to 250,000 and also solely manage one of the largest non-profit websites in southern Ohio.

Essentially, I've just outworked everyone to get where I'm at. Should I stop at OSU/Notre-Dame, or should I attempt a really good Ivy? Or not waste my time? Do these schools seem like a good fit for getting into management and blasting through the ranks, or should I aim higher/lower? Any other schools I should consider?

I take the final test this Saturday, and have re-written my resume and started my recommendations.

Thanks all!

Couple of things:

1) Get a 680 on the GMAT. This score is a real threshold when it comes to top programs. This poets and quants article is helpful in terms of averages. Your low GPA isn't doing you any favors, and unless you break a 720, Columbia is probably not going to bite.

2) You need to weave together a story that explains why you've held so many positions. 7 in 4 years makes you sound scattered. I'd say focus on the most relevant ones to your future goals.

That said, if you want to attend a good program, I'd suggest Ross and Kelley as well. It seems you want to stay in the midwest and those schools have great placements in that region. That and they are great programs. You might also be a better fit for part-time programs, which have less selective admissions. You won't know unless you apply, so chose one or two dream schools.
