I won't be able to complete my application by R1 deadline so I am planning for R2. (GMAT680) Indian IT applicant?

Should I go for it?

Thanks man. I asked this because deadline is for Oct 1 and I won't receive my Toefl score before 3rd Oct. So I don't want to submit an incomplete application for Katz since it is one of those schools for which my GMAT is not that low for an Indian candidate.

Do we need to cover all the 3 points for the required essay in 250 words or should the 3 points be 250 words each?

Hello All,

I am a first year student of two year Full-time MBA program at Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business, University of Pittsburgh graduating in 2018.
You can ask questions about school/Admissions etc here in the thread.

Happy to answer :)

Hello!
I have just submitted my application yesterday. I have 3 years of experience in a petroleum company and a GMAT score of 680.

I have a few specific questions regarding the program:

i) How is the EBL method helpful in shaping up a MBA candidate. What are the main advantages of this learning method? Do you get to work on real cases and coordinate with companies? Or does it take place inside the classroom setting.

ii) How relevant is the operations MBA curriculum in today's business world? My goal is to work for a major supply chain based company like Amazon, Walmart, DHL, Maersk. Will there be enough employment opportunity post MBA?

iii) The deadline of round 1 is Oct 1. When can I expect a reply from the adcom?

Thanks in advance.

I'll try to answer your Qs -
1) EBL is more important than even the core courses, because it helps you find your strengths, work on those strengths, give an opportunity to learn and network.
You do get to work on real cases in Consulting Field Projects, and in a few core classes. Also, there are multiple case competitions that you can participate in, which will be the actual issues that the companies are facing, so there's an opportunity to show your skills, and get some visibility.
For field projects and case competitions, you need to travel to different locations; only the groundwork happens in the classroom.

2) Operations is one the widely recognized concentrations in MBA. Pick any company, and it will have a demand of people from Operations. If you're looking for hard core supply chain, then you've made the right choice for your target companies. Amazon is one of the big recruiters even at Katz. It offers multiple roles based on your interest and capability. Having said that, networking is most important to land you in the right job.

3) The school might have mentioned something about this one on the website. If not, then you can always email the adcom to get the info. My guess is that they would update your admission status in 2-3 weeks.

Not yet. I guess they will take at least a week's time before they respond.

Do let us know if you receive interview invite.

Cheers.

Congratulations! You're one step closer to your admission :)
Tips for interview -
- make sure you can explain every point on your Resume
- read behavioral questions
- they might drill on the work you've done (it happened for me)
- case based questions - you're right
- prepare for certain scenarios relevant to your work ex
- keep your answers short (not more than 2 min per answer)
- last but not the least, dress professionally and keep smiling :)

Good luck.

let me know if you have any other questions.
