Chat Session : 13th Feb
Section : Quant

Discussed a handful of DS questions.

Tip's :
1. X and X^n always have the exact same prime factors.
2. When any GMAT-question involves the terms factors and multiples --> WE CANNOT USE NEGATIVE INTEGERS.

Can't believe we did 10 questions. Advanced Apologies: I may not be available tomorrow. Great movies are in town. (Silence and Hidden Figures)

Hi Guys. Sorry I have been a bit unavailable. I had a somewhat significant medical emergency but now all good. Hope to resume the sessions from today. How is every one doing?

Dear souvik101990, I hope you are all right and hope to resume the GMAT study in the chat as well. :-D

I have difficulty to resolve this kind of problem and I am so stressful.

If N is a positive integer, does N have exactly three factors?

(1) The integer \(N^2\) has exactly five factors

(2) Only one factor of N is a prime number

How did I miss this.
Apologies for late response.

Here is what I would do on this question =>

Given data -> N >0 and N is an integer.
We are asked if N has three factors.

The number of factors of any integer K = p^a * q^b *r^c were p , q, r are prime factors of K is given by (a+1)*(b+1)*(c+1)

Now the only way N can have 3 factors is of N is of the form p^2 for some prime number p.

So lets dive into statements -->

If N^2 has 5 factors => N must be of the form p^2

Sufficient.

Statement 2 ->Only one factor of N is a prime number.
N can be 2^20 or 3^10 or 5^2

Not sufficient.

Hence A.

Excellent Question!
