Great questions!

When it comes to breaking into a corporate strategy role, I don't think your particular MBA major (full list of those at Wharton here) really matters that much given how early corporate recruiting happens in the Fall. You don't really have much of a chance to develop expertise in your major by the time that summer internship interviews are held and the signaling effect of having that prospective major on your resume is lessened by how general in focus corporate strategy (and management consulting) is. The key to getting that follow-on offer is to get the internship and do well, so the only education that matters is what you gain between August and December of your first year.

As for rotational leadership development programs: that is an area where older students (age 32-35) would have a definite advantage. I would check out the ones offered by Emerson, Corning, Fortive, and Danaher. The titles in these programs are all over the map since you rotate through different businesses and roles. Some include: Director of Marketing, Director of Sales, Product Manager, Assistant General Manager, Corporate Planner, etc.

Hope this helps!

whoa this thread is quiet af.

I recently went for the Wharton Reception at Mumbai. It was great. I think most receptions tend to be too informative but Wharton stood out (plus free cocktails, salmon, and bacon wrapped breadsticks did not hurt).

They had a terrific alumni panel and people asked all sorts of questions. I got to chat with a current student with very similar goals and hope to make a good connection.

I also learned that the founder of Epigamia and Hokey Pokey (up and coming greek yogurt and ice-cream makers) are wharton alums. pretty cool!
