Approximately 90 spots are available in the upcoming Stanford MSx class. That is a little intimidating, isn’t it? Only 90! Yes, the Stanford MSx class is small when compared to many full-time MBA programs, but despite the competition for this small pool of seats, it is possible to prepare a winning application to become one of the coveted 90!
And no, to achieve admissions success with Stanford MSx, you don’t have to be the inventor of some next-generation rocket technology with a 780 GMAT score! Our recent admits have included a member of the U.S. military, an accountant at a small firm and an executive from a Middle East cosmetics firm – just some among many. On the surface, these candidates may not seem glamorous, but their success in conveying outstanding work experience and distinguishing themselves through their personal stories and characteristics made all of the difference.
What are the most important factors for admissions success with Stanford MSx? Here are some:
1.
Essays and work experience quality. Make sure you distinguish yourself through the excellence of your essays and the quality of the work experience you write about. The class is small, thus every member of the class must be able to contribute and enhance learning. Your essays are your chance to give the admissions committee a snapshot of what you have to offer.
2.
Outstanding recommendations. Make sure your recommendations are exceptionally strong. This can make the difference between acceptance and rejection. Your recommendations should say more than that you are a great team player and very reliable – that is assumed! Make sure your recommendation writers convey the strength of your leadership, analytical thinking and ability to add value.
3.
Solid academic profile. Compared with some other top EMBA programs, Stanford MSx is a bit more picky about the academic credentials of their successful applicants. The good news for you is that the academic standards are still more relaxed than those of the Stanford full-time MBA program. So, while a typical candidate to the Stanford full-time MBA program might have a 3.7 GPA and a 750 GMAT score, for Stanford MSx it is quite often possible to have a soft point in either the GPA or GMAT score. If you have a 3.7 GPA and a 660 GMAT score, you might be fine with an outstanding application. If you have a 3.5 GPA and a 720, you might also be fine with an outstanding application. For those who really want to join Stanford, this is good news!
