Personally, I'm partial to McCombs, but that's just a personal preference. Good luck with your decision.

As someone who's waiting on a decision from McCombs, I think you should definitely wait on USC's decision. :-D

Just kidding, but I would go with your gut, because both have great schools. Good luck with your decision.

The schools seem to more or less at parity with regards to rankings / academics / etc. At the end of the day, if you're decision comes down to location, I would have to go with Austin.

When I applied, I would mention the schools I was Considering / applying to friends, family, colleagues, etc. The only two cities that came up universally positive were Austin (by a long shot) and Charlottesville, VA.

McCombs has better national recognition, and it has the entire southwest region on lock. Marshall has regional reputation and is out shined by Anderson in SoCal, by Haas and Stanford in greater California.

Also, USC isn't located in the best part of LA.

Re: USC Marshall vs UT-Austin McCombs [#permalink]
My humble opinion:

If you're from SoCal, like SoCal and "plan to eventually settle" in SoCal, the diplomas and networks of the other schools you mentioned are not going to be as helpful to you as Marshall. The only other schools I'd consider in such a situation are Stanford, Anderson and Haas.

BTW, data from 2010 US News rankings:

UT: 3.45 GPA, 681 GMAT, 68.6% employed at grad
SC: 3.30 GPA, 690 GMAT, 65.9% employed at grad

Disclaimer: I'm attending the Marshall EMBA next year.

I agree with the above re: your long term goals and enjoyment of SoCal. Both of those are the exact reason I am going to McCombs (live in TX, want to work in TX, plan to be in TX). With respect to the GMAT, the OP was using the part-time numbers.

what did you end up doing? I am in the same boat, and have to decide McComb vs Marshall. McComb seems better all around to me, but USC is great if I want to come back to LA again.

McCombs.. if you end up there it is going to be helpful if you start spelling it with an "s" at the end. ;) Joking aside, I think they are peer schools and neither carries any significant weight outside of their respective regions. So it should come down to money and post-MBA job location preferrence.
