Prices for home cinema equipment are decreasing dramatically, allowing many people to install such cinemas in their own homes. This factor coupled with the accesibility of films through online rentals, downloads, and purchases has led to a boom in the number of films being watched internationally. However, because of the availability of a variety of cheap methods for the illicit distribution of entertainment materials, investors are to __________.

Which of the following best completes the passage below?

IMO C
Premise 1: Home cinema is becoming cheaper
Premise 2: accessibility of rental, downloads etc is increasing
Conclusion: investors should do something for the cheap methods for the illicit distribution

Now, let's remove the clear NO options. -> B, D, E
There is no talk about changing the content according to the international audience.
There is no talk about investors not forming comparisons. They might be still doing it.
There is no talk of investing in retail outlets. What were are getting from the premises that investors should invest in the private screening equipments.

Now regarding A, investors should keep accurate documentation, but does the tac purpose only can harm the investors if they are linked to an illicit distribution? NO
Illicit Distribution can bring in issues with rights and royalties. This point is captured in Option C.

(A) keep accurate documentation of any profits earned from the sales or royalties of a particular movie for tax purposes
(B) invest in films that can be easily marketed to international audiences without making serious changes to the actual content
(C) avoid financial ventures or acquisitions related to the industry associated with movie rights and royalties
(D) form comparisons between the commercial successes of certain movie genres before deciding what kind of movie to invest in
(E) refrain from investing in retail outlets or developers in the field of audio and visual equipment intended for use in small private cinemas

they would do this anyway

(B) invest in films that can be easily marketed to international audiences without making serious changes to the actual content
content of the movie is not a problem

(C) avoid financial ventures or acquisitions related to the industry associated with movie rights and royalties
because of illegal distribution, investors do not want to invest in the entertainment industry that benefits from movie rights and royalties

(D) form comparisons between the commercial successes of certain movie genres before deciding what kind of movie to invest in
they would do this anyway

(E) refrain from investing in retail outlets or developers in the field of audio and visual equipment intended for use in small private cinemas
This starts off okay, but visual equipment sale would not be affected by the illegal distribution of movies

Since people are not paying to see their movies in home cinemas we must choose the answer choice most fitting for this:
what could help movie industry not loose money?

answer C is inline with our pre think (C) avoid financial ventures or acquisitions related to the industry associated with movie rights and royalties

IMO C

Decrease in Prices for home cinema equipment & accesibility of films has led to a boom in the number of films being watched internationally.
However, because of the availability of a variety of cheap methods for the illicit distribution of entertainment materials, investors are to __________.

Cause & Effect
Because of various factors - Film watched internationally increase - so ideally investors should invest in film industry.

But there are cheap methods available for distributing content illegally , so investors will ideally refrain from investing in film industry & related to that.

(B) invest in films that can be easily marketed to international audiences without making serious changes to the actual content - Incorrect - - investor should referain from investing in all films not only those that can be easily marketed.

(C) avoid financial ventures or acquisitions related to the industry associated with movie rights and royalties - Correct - This makes sense as making ventures will not be profitable as illegal ways are already way in practice, so profit cannot be obtained from such ventures.

(E) refrain from investing in retail outlets or developers in the field of audio and visual equipment intended for use in small private cinemas- - Incorrect - This part is catered in first line of argument. this doesn't form an effect for this part -"because of the availability of a variety of cheap methods for the illicit distribution of entertainment materials,"

C , ? .

We need to find the conclusion that is best completes the passage .

Prices for home cinema equipment (Decrease) -> No of user (increased)
also rental and download (Increased)-> view (Increased)

However, because of the availability of a variety of cheap methods for the illicit distribution of entertainment materials, investors are to __________
investor will surely be worried of this illicit distribution , and they may try to minimize this impact .

(A) keep accurate documentation of any profits earned from the sales or royalties of a particular movie for tax purposes

-- Out of scope . Since we are talking about illicit distribution of entertainment materials , that may harm investors and that the investors will try to avoid .

(B) invest in films that can be easily marketed to international audiences without making serious changes to the actual content
--Out . not impacting the reasoning mentioned in the ques

(C) avoid financial ventures or acquisitions related to the industry associated with movie rights and royalties
-- could be my answer . Since illicit distribution of entertainment materials is available now , to minimize loss investors can take this action . Hold this choice

(D) form comparisons between the commercial successes of certain movie genres before deciding what kind of movie to invest in
-- Irrelevant
(E) refrain from investing in retail outlets or developers in the field of audio and visual equipment intended for use in small private cinemas
-- audio and visual equipment are Irrelevant to the argument

C.
However is key word here.
As content is easily available for viewrs illegal, there is no meaning of having copy right.
As investors pay for copy right but same content is available illegally and hence people who subscribe to their channel/content by paying.

The simplified version of the passage is as follows:

There is a good increase in demand for films (internationally). But illicit distribution of entertainment materials (including films) exists. Therefore, investors are to _________

We need to find the answer choice that most logically explains what the investor must do, given the premises of the argument.

Which of the following best completes the passage below?

(A) keep accurate documentation of any profits earned from the sales or royalties of a particular movie for tax purposes
- (A) is not related to any of the premises of the argument. Hence, its irrelevant.

(B) invest in films that can be easily marketed to international audiences without making serious changes to the actual content
- in the context of the passage, the 'content' is irrelevant.

(C) avoid financial ventures or acquisitions related to the industry associated with movie rights and royalties - from the passage, we know that illicit distribution of entertainment materials (including films) exists. Hence, it would be a waste of money if investors decide to purchase movie rights and royalties. (C) perfectly describes the logical action that investors will take, given the information in the passage. Hence, (C) is the right answer choice.

(D) form comparisons between the commercial successes of certain movie genres before deciding what kind of movie to invest in
- the 'comparison' is not related to any of the premises of the argument.

(E) refrain from investing in retail outlets or developers in the field of audio and visual equipment intended for use in small private cinemas
- these 'retail' outlets may be those that are legal. So, if investors shy away from investing in such outlets, it would be against the investor's best interests. Hence, (E) does not represent a logical action that investors could take.

If you find this explanation helpful, please do give it a kudos  :)

OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

Prices for home cinema equipment are decreasing dramatically, allowing many people to install such cinemas in their own homes. This factor coupled with the accesibility of films through online rentals, downloads, and purchases has led to a boom in the number of films being watched internationally. However, because of the availability of a variety of cheap methods for the illicit distribution of entertainment materials, investors are to __________.

Which of the following best completes the passage below?

(A) keep accurate documentation of any profits earned from the sales or royalties of a particular movie for tax purposes

Incorrect.

This is a "Complete the Argument" format question. The missing argument part is a recommendation (are to means they should), indicating it's the conclusion and that this is an Inference question:

Premise A: home cinema equipment is cheaper than it was before so many people are buying it
    +
Premise B: the low prices and various methods for getting films has lead to an increase in the number of movies being watched
    +
Counter Premise C (However, because...): illegal distribution of entertainment media is available
    =
    Conclusion: ?

This answer choice is more like an additional premise than a conclusion. The issue of tax is not discussed in the argument so a statement revolving around tax cannot be a logical conclusion.

(B) invest in films that can be easily marketed to international audiences without making serious changes to the actual content

Incorrect.

This answer choice cannot be inferred from the premises as it fails to consider the last premise. If movies are being sold illegally using cheap methods, then investing in them does not make much sense, especially if distributing them worldwide requires no special adaptation.

(C) avoid financial ventures or acquisitions related to the industry associated with movie rights and royalties

This answer choice provides a logical conclusion to the argument. The last premise tells us that people are viewing movies without paying. Therefore, it seems quite logical to conclude that investments whose returns are based on paid views are unwise.

(D) form comparisons between the commercial successes of certain movie genres before deciding what kind of movie to invest in

This answer choice cannot be inferred from the premises as it fails to consider the last premise. If movies are being sold illegally using cheap methods, then investing in them does not make much sense, irrelative to the question of which genres are the most successful.

(E) refrain from investing in retail outlets or developers in the field of audio and visual equipment intended for use in small private cinemas

Incorrect.

This answer choice contradicts premise A and cannot, therefore, be a conclusion to the argument. If many people are buying home cinema equipment, then it seems quite logical to invest in retail outlets or developers that are dealing with that kind of product.
