Hi,

I am having problems finishing either the Q or the V sections of the MGMAT practice exams. I am doing my best to work more efficiently so that I can finish them in the future. However, I chose to randomly guess on some of the ones at the end and I think that may have really brought down my percentile (since I guessed wrong). Would your score be higher if you were to just do as many problems as you can get to and not answer some at the end OR to randomly guess at the end so that you can finish? Not sure which penalizes more - 1) not finishing or 2) getting a string of wrong answers at the end.

Thoughts?

Not finishing penalizes you the most - about 3 percentile points per missed question from the score you were at, so always guess, even if you have a few seconds left. That's ALWAYS better than leaving unanswered questions.

Meanwhile, here is something to help: timing-strategies-on-the-gmat-80176.html

Ok, I see. And answering incorrectly even if you're just guessing will only penalize you ~1 point per problem it seems? I gathered that from the MGMAT score report so that's why you should never leave any answer blank then, right? Thanks again!

MGMAT may use a slightly different methodology. GMAT penalizes you by 3 percentile points, which may be a point or may be 2 points or may not even be a point... depends on the ranking.
