Hello friends,
I am wondering whether I should have a summary section in my resume for MBA. I understand that most of you will probably think it is a waste of time since they know our goal is to apply for MBA, and all blahblahblah. However, I intend to use it to demonstrate what I did (a few words) and why I need an MBA (also a few words). I think it is a good place to let the readers know what I am going to show them in the rest of my application.
What do you think?
Thank you!
Hello
jesliwoo,
Thank you for your question. Resume development is one of the key components of
Personal MBA Coach’s services, and something that requires a specific approach. In other words, MBA resumes differ significantly from traditional professional resumes.
You are correct in the sense that an MBA resume should detail what you did, more specifically providing evidence that you have been successful and demonstrated leadership. However, this is not the place to articulate why you need an MBA, as other sections of your application like your short- and long-term goals will communicate this. Thus, a summary section is not necessary.
Instead, you should highlight your strengths by focusing on specific, measurable results (i.e., “increased performance 30% over previous year” or “drove $1M in new business by doing x, y, and z”) and transferrable skills (i.e., teamwork and communication).
Should you want to discuss your resume and other ways to enhance your candidacy in further detail, do not hesitate to reach out to
