Thank you in advance!

I expect to score 690-710 in a few weeks on my first GMAT. However, my Quant score is considerably lower than my Verbal on practice tests.
Quant is consistently in the low 40's and Verbal is consistently in the mid 40's. I'd say I'm 95th percentile Verbal and 55th percentile Quant.

White Male MI, USA (I am part Native American, but because my father was adopted I don't know which tribe, so no affiliation)
Age 27

- 3.4 GPA
- Bachelors in Psychology from a small State Univ
- Just a few Quant heavy courses in undergrad (Stats, Algebra, Physics)
- Graduation Year: 2012

Work Experience:
- 6 years thus far
- Almost 2 years in management overseeing a phone/internet marketing dept of a dozen people for a large auto dealer group. Spent a year here in an entry level position before I was promoted.
- 2 years in social work (child welfare field)
- Almost 1 year as a Research Assistant for Univ or Notre Dame's Sociology Dept.

Extra- Curricular:
- A decade worth of community service working in day camps for native american youth in Canada and some other camps for under-served youth in the US.
- Started a nonprofit that did a variety of things for a few years for the community, anywhere from fund raising to event coordinating for churches and youth-groups.
- Habitat for Humanity and Soup kitchen volunteer a few times, but yeas ago

Post MBA goals:
Honestly, I don't have a strong idea here yet, or a great story to make my work history a little more cohesive.
Consulting has a lot of appeal, but I have a wife and kids so I don't want to travel too much. Possibly a combination of Marketing and Consulting since I have a little experience here and I like the possibility of being an entrepreneur in this field. Maybe Gen Management, but I don't know which industry. I know, I know... I'm all over the place.

The dream schools are Ross and Kenan-Flagler (but probably just dreams).
Wondering what my chances are at (1) Mendoza, Broad, or Kelley, (2) Owen or Krannert.

Also, wondering if you could share what my greatest weaknesses are strengths seem to be?

Thank you a million times!

Hey stebbinn

Thanks for getting in touch and for all the detail! Now firstly, good luck on the GMAT! I'd love to see you break 700 to give yourself your best shot. Also, to your point, your Quant is low. You may want to consider targeted private tutoring to get this up. Right now, I think that might put UNC and Ross in the reach group for you because your background is also a little non-traditional. (There's nothing to do to change that at this stage so with your dealership work, just make sure you are very clear about the size/scale of the team you manage and what your business impact is. I bet you are dealing with big dollar amounts!)

In terms of weaknesses, not having a clear vision for your career could slow you down. Schools like to know you've given this some thought and that they can help you. Take a look at the employment reports for all the programs you are targeting. See who is hiring. See who you get excited about. That will help you decide what you want to do.

I like Notre Dame for you and think you might have a shot. Average GMAT 683 and 40+% admit could work for you. I still want you to try to nail that GMAT to make the process easier, but I think you have a decent shot. (I'm guessing your previous work for ND can help you explain "Why ND" too.) Owen might be a bit tougher if you can't break 700.

Once you have your real GMAT score, follow up on this post and we can chat more!

Hope that helps and all the best for your applications!
