Thank you very much for taking the time to read through my profile.
Here it is,
Personal Info:
Male
Age: 23
Dual citizenship (Canada / USA)
Nationality: Native American (I have a CDIB)
1) Work Experience:
During college I started a successful business. The business served 100's of customers and generated $10,000 - $20,000 in revenue annually. I won a start-up business competition at my school. Immediately after graduation I worked as an investment banking analyst at a start-up oil & gas investment banking firm. After 6 months I left to join a real estate development / private equity firm. I have been working here for just over 2 years. I am in charge of leasing, real estate development planning, building pro-formas for prospective projects / presenting my findings to the owners, and forming strategy with upper management on investments in commercial real estate, hotels, and other businesses.
2) GMAT:
680, willing to take it again.
3) College info:
Claremont McKenna
3.10 GPA: (1st Year: 2.88, 2nd Year: 2.83, 3rd Year: 3.08, 4th Year: 3.58)
Study Abroad at University of Queensland during 3rd year (Brisbane, Australia) GPA: 4.0
Major: Economics-Leadership
Graduation: 2011
4) Extracurriculars:
In college:
- Varsity baseball
Post-college:
- Youngest member on a religious fundraising committee. In charge of seeking new donors/volunteers within the community, specifically in my age group.
- Little League baseball head coach. In charge of coaching 13 year old boys, organizing practices, drills, and being a role model.
- Men's ice hockey team
- Men's baseball team
5) Important certifications: None
6) Your target programs: HBS, Wharton, Tuck, Booth, Columbia
7) When you plan to apply? R1: 2014
8) Attain an upper management role at the firm I currently work at. Be a successful investor and entrepreneur.
I have recommendations from alumni of some of the schools mentioned.
I am worried that my low GPA / low GMAT combo may hurt my chances of getting into the elite programs that I mentioned. Is there a target GMAT score that would significantly help my chances?
Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate your time and effort.
You're most welcome.
I share you concern. you also have the time to retake. Given your leadership, achievement, relevant experience, and URM status as a Native American, it is quite possible that you would be given serious consideration and even be accepted at one of your target schools with your current score. However, your chances would improve significantly with a higher GMAT and perhaps passing level one of the CFA (if that is relevant to your goals). A 700+ would improve your chances; a 720 would be even better.
Best,
Linda
