Hey Guys,

Glad to join the GMAT club. I wanted to understand my chances at the different schools I'm considering ,here's my profile-

Nationality : Indian

Education:

Robotics Master's from UPenn with a CGPA of 3.61/4 (2010 graduate)

Bachelor in Engineering from RV College in Bangalore in India with a 72% (2008 Graduate)

Work Experience :

6 years as of Nov 29 2016, including jobs at GE Global Research, Robert Bosch and currently in Eaton Corporation.

All in core technical primarily mechanical, electrical and hydraulics domains

Extracurricular :

1) Core organizing team member of Startup Master Class which is an annual startup event and is one of the largest in India with a participation of 850 people

2) Volunteer at Make a Difference (MAD) which is an Indian non -profit organization primarily working with children in orphanages to ensure better career outcomes for the children

3) Company Cricket and Basketball winning team member at Eaton in two corporate tournaments

4) Winning debate and quiz team captain at the annual intra-company competitions

GMAT score : 660 (Q-48;V-33)

Target Schools :

Canada - UBC (Sauder), U-Toronto (Rotman) , Mcgill (Desautels), York (Schulich)

USA - U Wash (Foster), Georgetown (Mcdonough) , Notredame (Mendoza) , Georgia Tech (Scheller), Boston University (Questrom)

Europe : IE Business School ,HEC Paris , Alliance Manchester Business school

I wanted to get some more information if I had any chance in better US schools. GMAT score is low, but I am hoping my UPenn brand name would help in offsetting the score slightly.

Target Better US schools : Kellogg, Johnson, Emory, Fuqua,Mccombs ,Darden,Wharton

Target Better European Schools : INSEAD

Target Better India Schools : ISB

Let me know if there are other better schools where I might have a chance as well, any help would be great !! :)

Hi rahulkoct5,

You're ultimately asking Admissions questions though, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile. There's a Forum full of them here:

thanks for sharing your profile. I think your target schools are more realistic for you then your "target better" programs. Your GMAT score will ultimately preclude your from being very competitive for these programs, ISB would be your best bet from that list

It would help if you can retake the GMAT. Experience matters, and no doubt, is extremely valuable when schools look at your profile. But the fact that you are an Indian candidate makes things a little tricky. You can look at ISB, or why not Penn State Smeal?

Please feel free to get in touch with us.

Hey dude,
great to hear from you!
First of all, your profile is GREAT!
You have great school, super cool jobs and lots of other interesting stuff to boot!

So a stupid question if I may: WHY would you apply with a 660? You seem to be a very very clever guy, and I have no doubt at all that you can score higher. I would HIGHLY recommend you retake the GMAT and study the heck out of it for the next four-five months. I mean if you apply with a 720+ Top 10 US schools are within range. So why not go for it?

You're only gonna do B-school once, so my advice: do it right!

I hope this is helpful!
Best,
Jon Frank

Enough has been said about the GMAT bit so won't repeat that Rahul. A few other stuff:
  1. While the brands you have been associated are good but that alone is not good enough. It will be important to understand how you can differentiate yourself. 3 jobs in 6 years might also need some explaining so make sure your story is well thought through.
  2. Though the non-common nature of your experience is good, it will be important to see how you plan to connect the dots for post-MBA goals. Another area to ponder closely on.
  3. European schools like international experience. Anything you have on that front will be helpful too.

Hope this pushes your thinking further.

Cheers,
