Hello!
I would appreciate some insight on my profile, thanks in advance!
Profile: Brazilian, 28 (almost 29 at matriculation), male
GMAT: 710 (48Q,39V) - Percentiles 92% (78%Q, 88%V)
WE1: 1.75 year at major brazilian food company (US$ 7 billion in revenues). Started as a management trainee, developed projects in multiple areas (including international project in Chile), focused last year in the commercial area, developing projects and leading sales team.
WE2: 3 months at major Investment Banking in Brazil. Financial analyst, got the job as a way to remain active until next job started.
WE3: 1.5 year at biggest tobacco company in Brazil (US$ 7 billion in revenues). Started as a management trainee, developed projects mainly in the marketing department, promoted to manager in 1 year. Unfortunately, was laid off in July.
Undergrad: Industrial Engineer, top Brazilian School. Low GPA due to some failed courses. Had to work as a private tutor all the way through college to help my family, being unable to attend classes most of the time, specially during internships.
Post Graduate course in management from top Brazilian B-School, got A's in all classes.
EC: Volunteer with NGO for underprivileged children, member of company's volunteer commitee, organizing donation campaings and blood drives.
Sports (soccer and foot-volley), guitar player.
Post MBA Goals: After being laid off from previous job, took a month to reflect on carrer goals, and decided to make a carrer switch into strategy consulting, which has long been a dream of mine. However, at this point of my life, an MBA is a must if one wants to move into this new carrer path.
Schools: Kellogg, Tuck, Booth, Haas, MIT Sloan, Duke Fuqua. Given the financial commitment I'd have to make to pay for the MBA, only top ranked schools would help me get jobs in Brazil in which I could afford the student loans.
Questions: Given my demographics, is a 710 good enough? How being laid off can hurt my chances?
Thank you in advance for your help!
