Hi Abhinav,

Thanks for sharing your profile.

I am an ISB alum, CO14, and have been assisting applicants in their journeys.

I see a lot pluses in your profile in terms of your above average GMAT score, International experience and roles in premier technology companies.

However, you will need to showcase techno managerial skills in your profile than just technical skills – something, which is prominent from the profile description you have given. You will also need to demonstrate how you have grown in your career and how have your responsibilities transformed. This will eventually become the build up for what goals you want to achieve post MBA from ISB.

I will also need to know from you what was your undergrad institution and GPA, and also your extra-curricular involvements to make a better evaluation your candidature.

Please feel free to reach out to me at arijit.biswas@crackadmission.com/+919701215544 in case you want to discuss further.

Wish you the best of luck !
Cheers
AB

Hi Upadhriti,

Thank you for sharing your profile.

I am an ISB alum, CO14, and have been assisting applicants in their admission journeys.

There are a lot of positive aspects coming out from your profile description – techno managerial experience, hands on experience of operations management, understanding of labour laws among others.

However, what the admission committee would want to know is why you want to pursue a full time MBA program at this juncture of your career, and not an executive MBA. Since you already enjoy a managerial role in your organization, what kind of roles do you foresee yourself working in post ISB - Would you still want to work in a PSU or are you looking at joining a MNC. In either cases, which industry and what function are you aiming for.

In short, a score in excess of 690 and well-crafted application will give you a good shot at admission.

Please feel free to get in touch with me at arijit.biswas@crackadmission.com / +919701215544 in case you want to discuss further.

Thanks
AB

Hi,

I will be glad if you could evaluate my profile:
HSLC (10 th Standard) - 82% (From SEBA, State Board)
HSC (12th ) - 78 % (State Board)
B.Tech - Mechanical from NIT Silchar, CGPA - 8.4

Worked Experience:
i) Joined IBM- 3 months (resigned as got into a PSU)
ii) NTPC- 10 years (will be on 19.9.17)
Profile in NTPC, I have worked 5 years (approx) in Operations. Knowledge of Power Plant, Coal Transportation and linkages etc.
5 years (approx) in Materials Management. Knowledge of Logistics, Risk Management, Vendor Relations, SAP, Ware House management etc.
Have received recognition for services in several occasions. Experienced in dealing with reputed PSUs', other manufacturing industries etc. and also with labor class.
Extra Curricular: Nothing extra ordinary. Degree in music. Sports like tennis, badminton etc.
What would be the minimum GMAT score to get a call from ISB. What other alternatives do I have in India as well as abroad.

Regards

Hi Upadhriti

Response from a GyanOne consultant (ISB alum, Co2008):

10 years is on the higher side of the spectrum. You would need to explain not just why you need an MBA now, but where you go post that. Given your rich PSU experience, we do believe that would be doable. You would have a lot to talk about for ISB essay 1, in particular. We had someone with a similar profile (from Nevyeli Lignites) get through last year. A lady working in operations in a PSU has a strong diversity factor, and you should leverage that.

ECA is not a concern in your case, and what you have is sufficient. Focus on a GMAT score of 680+.

On alternatives beyond ISB, please get in touch with us directly and we will be happy to help.

Hi dreams101

You are very well positioned to make it to ISB. Excellent ECA, strong work-ex, diversity, and clear goals. The only slight hitch is that ISB's ability to get you the niche mining roles abroad you are looking for is low. R1 is 1.5 months away, go for it.

Hi rishavca

Try and improve that GMAT score by around 40-50 points. EEO admissions are very competitive in terms of GMAT scores, and you have almost no experience to leverage as an asset. The rest of your profile is pretty good though.

Hi dreams101,

We think you have a good well-balanced profile with sound academics, work-exp and extracurriculars. The international exposure is unique and definitely helps. If you can package it well to showcase a mix of leadership potential and professional accomplishments, then you definitely stand a chance.
You may also need to think about why PGP now and what did/did not work post PGDM. Another thought we have is that you may be looking at a very small niche with your short-term goals. Our recommendation is to do some research to identify what alumni of your background are doing and what could be a Plan B if your target companies don't come to campus.

Feel free to reach out for a discussion.

Hi akhigandhi,

You have a well-differentiated profile. The international experience helps too and a GMAT of 680 should see you through. Since the number of applicants from the medical background is growing rapidly, and typically every class has not more than 7-8 doctors, your essays will carry the weight of your application.

You must highlight leadership qualities, basic understanding of a business and clear short-term and long-term goals that show that you are ready to make a shift from diagnostics to corporate.

Feel free to reach out for a discussion.

Hi BruceWayneBatman,

A good profile overall, but you must remember that you do belong to the competitive IT pool. Therefore, the most important part of your application would be how you are different from your peers. The key to making it to ISB is making sure that this question is clearly answered in your essays.
A 720 GMAT is good, a 750 would definitely boost your chances. Extracurriculars are decent, but rather than a plethora of ECs, it would help if you could demonstrate depth of involvement in even one of them, clearly demonstrating the impact that you have brought about to society.

Hope this helps.

Hi Raj

Your profile is quite strong from all perspectives, except for two: GMAT score and quantum of work experience. You will be among the most experienced professionals at ISB, if you are selected, and so in your application you will need to have a very strong justification for why you need an MBA at this stage. Also, the GMAT score, while not the biggest criterion at your experience level, is low.

Would recommend you focus closely on your essays to create a good case. While essay 1 should not be an issue, given the rich experience you have, essay 2 (why MBA, and why now) will be critical.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

Hi,

You have a lot of positives in your profile specially your international marketing stint. However, you will need to improve your score by atleast 40 points and specially Quant to get a realistic shot at ISB.

Please feel free to reach out to me at arijit.biswas@crackadmission.com if you have any further queries.

Thanks
Arijit

Hi rajkumarchinthala,

A good profile, the international experience and the academic profile help. We are sure there are a lot of leadership examples there too. Couple of thoughts:
- 640 is definitely on the lower side and a score of 680+ should get your closer to the goal
- Operations/General Management roles would make realistic goals for your profile. With 12 years, consulting roles would be difficult to get.

Try giving GMAT another shot and you can make it through.

Hi Raj,

You have a good profile. I'm not sure if you're targeting the regular PGP course or Executive PGP-PRO or PGP-MAX. The regular full time might not be the best fit for you and is more competitive to get in. I suggest looking at PRO and MAX programs if they are more suited towards your learning and career goals. Having said that, there are higher aged candidate who do get in to regular PGP. Improving your GMAT score as suggested above will go a long way but if you can't afford to spend more time I can understand that. I still encourage you to apply since you will get some benefit of such higher work ex. Hope this helps. Please get in touch if you need any assistance.

Best,

Hi there,

Your work ex seems fine. But since your have IT education and work background the competition is tough for you guys. You may be a bit low on extra curricular and community involvement too. Involvement during college is good but it needs to be continued even during your work. You need to build an overall profile to get into ISB. Apart from targeting a 700+ in your GMAT you should focus on improving ECA & community service. Try to portray what is special/different about yourself. Hope this helps.

Best,
