Hi, please evaluate my profile.

Re-applicant

Male - 28 years old

GMAT - 730 (Q-49, V-40) 2nd attempt (Dec'17)
700 (Q-49, V-36) 1st attempt (Aug'2016)

Work experience :
1.) 4 years in ZS. My role involved starting from handling operational deliverables for the first year, then leading a team that handled them, getting involved in a couple of consulting projects on the side. 10 months ago, I changed my track entirely and moved to a specialized team which works entirely on Analytics heavy work (Marketing Mix, Clustering, Genetic Algorithms, etc. - can expand more on this)
2) 1.5 years in Oracle - where I helped create modules for a suite of products to be used in the Retail sector - I had also interned at Oracle and received a PPO

Recognition at work: Chosen as 1/45 Opex champion (specialists in operations track) - receiving regular trainings which would help me help other teams handle their operations better

Education : B.E. from Manipal Institute of Technology, 7.2/10
Class 12th : 76.33%
Class 10th : 84.33%

Extra curricular :
1. Lead my team as the captain in annual office events
2. Core member of a NGO started at ZS
3. Dramatics in College
4. Western Vocals in college

I've more accomplishments throughout my school (like quizzes, short story writing, etc.)

I plan on applying in R2 for 2018 intake and I want to move to either Top 6 consulting firms or analytics in e-commerce. Please let me know what you think :)

First of all, congratulations on your NTU admit!

For ISB, you should start with first analyzing where you went wrong last year. If you did not receive an interview, then it had to be something wrong in your application. I do a lot of reject analysis every year and I find that most applicants do not project their work experiences properly or do not have well-defined career goals. Do you fall in this category? If you did not get in after the interview, then it could mean you were not convincing enough there or lacked good communication skills (the two areas where I have seen applicants faltering).

Now looking at your profile description, it seems that you have good experiences, and ISB regularly accepts applicants from ZS, so you also have good pedigree. Overall, I find your profile impressive.

My suggestion is that you (well, no drum rolls here, the answer might sound cliched, but the REAL difference will be in the execution) submit a very strong application that showcases: 1. leadership, 2. Achievements and impact at WORK; 3. well thought out, logical, yet aspirational career goals, 4. a NEED for MBA.

Feel free to reach out should you wish to discuss or take our help with your application.

Thanks for the follow-up post on your profile.

Your experience sounds competitive - do highlight your achievements and overall impact at work in your application. Last year we had helped an applicant with a similar profile- 9+years in the automotive industry (with achievements like launches of cars, off roaders and 3-wheelers). He is currently at ISB. Your GMAT is lesser than his though, but with a strong application, you should pull through.
Why ISB with 8+ experience will be a crucial question to answer.

Reach out if you need help.

Hi guys I have completed my bachelors from Jadavpur University and masters from IIT Kanpur. Currently I working in Bain. My GMAT score is 740. I will be applying for ISB upcoming September. Before April session 2019 I will have 2.9 years of experience if I get through. Is it wise enough to apply upcoming year or should I wait for another year until my work ex reaches 4 years.

With a strong profile, you can apply anytime after two years experience (and even before through the YLP and the EEO options)

A strong profile comprises good acads (you have an excellent GMAT score), professional impact and leadership potential (you are working with a great company, but I can't speak to your professional experiences, as you have not mentioned anything here), and a well rounded profile (get involved with some extra curricular activities).

You have an excellent pedigree, and that adds to your profile.

If you think you can pull through a strong application for R2 and are open to applying this year, then that works as well. there are some applicants who have got into ISB in R1 with 25+months experience (IB/ consulting backgrounds)

I request you to evaluate my profile and add on if you'd need more information.

I've been working for start-ups for the past two and a half years in the marketing and growth segment. With the company I'm currently working for, I've been based out of Singapore and Jakarta and led projects single-handedly.

I've started my prep for the GMAT and aim to apply for the 1st round in September 2018. When I apply, my total work experience would add up to a little more than 3 years.

CBSE - 9.4 CGPA
+2 (BIEAP) - 89%

Hi Saarthak

The deferred (EEO) program at ISB is quite competitive in terms of GMAT scores. Given that you have time on your side, would recommend that you increase the score to over 700 and apply in R1 next year than now. That will also hep you tide over the undergrad score to an extent. The rest of your profile is pretty good, so go with a GMAT score to match that.

Hope this helps. Feel free to come back with more queries as needed.

thanks for the prompt reply but I don't think i can do better than 670 or at max 690 as my score ranges in this area only?
So, is there no hope for my selection in ISB?

Thank you.

Understood. However, that may be where you currently are. With more time and focus, you can (in fact, anyone can) raise your score to above 700. In case, though, you do max out at 690 even after your best shot, you can then try to focus on differentiating your application based on your NGO leadership and your law background.
