Hi Viralvortex,

Thank you for sharing your profile.

I am an Indian School of Business alum, CO14, and have been assisting applicants get into global business schools for the last 4 years. Below is my evaluation of your profile:

Academics: Above Average, being from BITS Pilani with good CGPA definitely helps your chances

Internship Experience:

• Quality: Good, multiple internships can show that you are familiar with the industry

Extracurricular: If possible show some recognized certificates/achievements to validate your time spent in the activities.

GMAT: Any score above 700 works fine, the more you can score the better

Overall: You have a good profile with a decent GMAT score. However, you belong to the over-represented group i.e. Male Engineer. You’ll have to explain your goals post MBA and how you can add value and diversity to the classroom.

Please feel free to get in touch with me at arijit.biswas@crackadmission.com and/or +arijit_biswas89 (Skype) in case you want a detailed discussion.

Hello there,

I am planning to apply to ISB in round three. Have taken the GMAT and my scores are as follows:
Overall: 710 | Verbal: 38 | Quant: 49 | IR:8 | AWA: Awaiting Results

My academic scores are as follows:
Secondary Schooling (ICSE): 94.6%
Higher Secondary (ICSE): 93%
B.Tech(SRM University - Software Engineering): 9.21/10 CGPA

WORK EXPERIENCE:
I graduated in 2014 and since then I have bee working in the field of analytics. I started off as a Trainee Decision Scientist at Mu Sigma where I worked for 1.2 years. Post which I joined a leading Marketing Intelligence company as a Senior Business Analyst. In the past 3.5 years, I have grown from a Senior Business Analyst to Manager - Analytics and look after accounts which are worth 16M Dollars to the organization in revenue and managing 6 people directly. I have excellent domain understanding of advertising - especially digital and am very proficient in Machine Learning and Analytics.
I have taken several initiatives in the company to improve taskforce management, resource management, training, retention and career progression. I was awarded the Best Performer at the organizations' annual awards. I was also selected for the Future Leaders Program which selects 22 individual all over the world and provides leadership training to them. I am the youngest manager in my company.

Extra Curricular:
At my college, I have been the House Vice-Captain and have won several trophies(Gold, Silver Bronze) for Intra and Inter-University dance competitions(solo and group). I have represented my college at National Level Dance competitions as well. I was the Chairman of the Software Engineering association as well.

My organization hosts a corporate Olympics every year and I have won 6 medals (3 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze) across events such as Carrom, Cricket, Football and Online Gaming.

Why MBA:
I have grown rather quickly in the roles that I have been and being in a demanding industry such as Marketing Analytics it important to keep up with the knowledge. Most of the knowledge(marketing and management) that I have acquired has been mostly driven by intuition and through some resources from the internet. On reading about the course at ISB I realized that courses such as "MARKETING MANAGEMENT", "MANAGERIAL ECONOMICS", "COMPETITIVE STRATEGY", "MARKETING DECISION MAKING" etc. would help me immensely to build my core knowledge base allowing me to leverage my application-focused mindset. The diversity at ISB would also allow me to learn from peers and industry leaders and gain valuable experience. In the short term, I wish to grow in the Advertising Industry as a thought leader who brings technology, analytics and domain knowledge to the table and applied it to a business problem in the most effective manner. In the long term, I might want to have my own advertising firm where we can help a multitude of clients grow.

Thanks for you time. Kindly let me know what are the areas I can work on to strengthen my application and whether the profile is good enough to make it through Round 3.

Cheers,

Hi arcKnight, hope you don't use this line verbatim in your essays ;)

This entire section is straight from your essay...right? :)

Doesn't thought leader sound slightly abstract, especially in the short term?

Thanks, ISBeacon. I just gave my GMAT yesterday and will be starting my application process today. I have not written the essay yet, hence the section is not from my essay. I have written what I honestly feel. However, my actual essay would also be along the same lines. (with a better language of course) :)

Your feedback is valuable. I will add more concrete short term goals and avoid abstract terms. Do you think the profile is good for round three? Any other feedback is welcome too :)

Here's a link you may want to read in order to produce better goals statement:
https://tdwi.org/articles/2019/01/18/ad ... ustry.aspx

the trick is to connect the relevant parts of your past experience (not the entire whole) to what you wish to do in the future. Also I find thought leadership to be a vague goal- there is no designation as thought leadership. Talk in terms of positions, companies and specific responsibilities for the short term.

You are welcome. Goals should not sound 1. vague (thought leader), or 2. like you are going to do the same thing after MBA.
Connect the dots well, between past and present career and future goals. All the best.

Hi vaibhavarora17,

I am an Indian School of Business alum, CO14, and have been assisting applicants get into global business schools for the last 4 years. Below is my evaluation of your profile:

Academics: Average; You come from a diverse field it can definitely help you in your application.

Professional Work Experience:
• Length: 3.5 years of pre- MBA experience will be a good fit to the classroom.
• Quality: Very Good. Having quality leadership experience always strengthens your application.

Extracurricular: Good. If possible show some recognized certificates/achievements to validate your time spent in the activities.

GMAT: Score needs to be >700. Consider re-taking GMAT before applying if possible OR present your Professional Work Experience as the main attraction of your profile.

Overall: I believe your profile has a number of sparks in it to get the attention of the admission committee. However, you will need to demonstrate how you add value to the classroom basis your experiences. Oil & Gas and E-commerce are very different industries and each of them requires expertise to do risk and data analytics. Hence, you need to be absolutely logical in what your next career move post ISB would be if you wish to continue in the same field or do something else.

Please feel free to get in touch with me at arijit.biswas@crackadmission.com and/or +arijit_biswas89 (Skype) in case you want a detailed discussion.

Hi all!

I am a construction management professional working in the Greater New York City area on multi-million dollar residential projects. I will be moving back to India by the end of June 2020 with a total of 31 months of work experience, all of which was acquired abroad. I will be taking the GMAT in late February and I am aiming for a 720+ score.

My academic background is -

1. BTech Civil Engineering from a top ranked NIT (GPA: 5.94/10.00 - Graduated May 2015)
2. M Engg. Environmental Engineering from Pennsylvania State University (GPA: 3.55/4.00 - Graduated August 2017)

I will be applying to IIM-B and ISB for their respective full-time MBA programs (2021 batch). I am hoping you guys can help me with the following questions that came to my mind -

1. Is a 720+ score along with 31 months of international work-ex enough to compensate for my weak undergrad GPA?
2. Does the Master's degree add anything substantial to my profile?
3. I will be looking for a job in India upon my return in June 2020. Since I am not to keen on staying in the Real Estate industry post-MBA, what kind of job would help me bolster my profile? Should I be looking to join non-profits?
4. When is the earliest I can apply for these B-Schools to be considered for scholarships?

Thanks in advance!
