Received a lot of recognition for my work in the team.

Hi niyetisinghvi, an issue that you will definitely face when drafting your essay-2 in ISB Application, is to reconcile the varied experiences that you've had in your past 4 years.

Majority of your experience is in testing and automation space, while over the past 1 year, you are working in a completely different setup of electrical engineering and entrepreneurship. This needs to be thought through as to how how you would explain the apparent unrelated transition from information technology to electrical domain, especially because nothing in your education background or prior experience suggests this.

You have to convince the admissions committee that this transition is not as random and as arbitrary, as it seems. Perhaps you need to take a call that you realized that entrepreneurship was the best way forward for you and the fact that your dad was already in this business, acted as an enabler for you to take the step.

If portrayed well, Entrepreneurship would actually work in your favor, since any b-school does value entrepreneurship experience.

Needless to say you are taking the right step by re-appearing in GMAT. See if you can push your current score by at least 20-30 points.

Hi Team,

regarding extra curricular activities : I have carried on the activities in college in Cognizant also.
1) Have won a dance competition organized by cognizant at kolkata level
2) Have been a part of the cognizant's Dance group in kolkata and had the opportunity to lead the same as well in an event.
3) Have won several awards in Table tennis and cricket in Cognizant, in both team and singles event. Was man of the tournament in one of the cricket tournaments as well.
4) Have been a part of the organizing team of several events here.
5) Have started working with cognizant's outreach, a program to share knowledge and teach students who can't afford education. The outreach does much more than just teaching subjects though

Hi Varun2708,

These are good and definitely bring about a holistic flavor to your personality. You should now get GMAT out of the way asap so that we can start writing a great application!

Thank you for the review.
Actually I did leave my job as I wanted to have some experience in management and entrepreneurial role before joining a b-school.

Also, What if I don't really score that well on GMAT, should I then go ahead with my previous score?

Hi niyetisinghvi, 680 is not a showstopper at all. In fact, we had candidates last year with the same score, who got thru ISB (are current students at ISB).

Having said that, do try your best to improve upon this score, to further your chances.

I would appreciate if someone evaluate my profile with the perspective of ISB/IIM (EPGP) and give concrete feedback for the same. Also, what should be the target GMAT score with such profile? Currently, I am scoring in between 670-690 in gmac mock test.

Hi rks007,

A good profile and a well-balanced one! A score of 680+ should keep you safe, given that you have other elements in your profile that help you shine. TERI is a good name to have on your resume and we think it will really help you move to the next step.

Well-articulated essays that link your strengths to your goals should take you through. Our recommendation would be to get GMAT out of the way by August end, so that you can build an application that shows off your potential.

Feel free to reach out for a discussion.

Hi Satyendra,

The stats look good. A large part of your profile is made of other factors such as quality of work experience, career progression, leadership potential, clarity in career goals. It will be great to know more details about these for a deeper evaluation.

Apart from Technical Expertise, I have been closely working with the Client to solve some of its most challenging problems such as increasing process efficiency etc.
I am closely working with the leadership team of my company on Proposals for prospective clients also. We are in the process of developing this practice into a million dollar revenue source for the firm.

Hi ghostSatyendra,

We think you have a good profile, a well-knit one, one of those that makes for great natural progression stories in MBA Applications. A consultant profile, who is well-accomplished at work, with plenty of examples definitely has a good shot at ISB. The fact that you lead a team and also that you have won accolades at work also helps.
Academically, we think you've done okay so far, a score of 700-710 should keep you over the fence. We did not see a mention of extra-curriculars and they are becoming more and more essential to showcase a holistic personality.

Overall, focus on showcasing your strengths and achievements along with a good mix of extra-curriculars. This combined with a good GMAT should take you to your goal.

Feel free to reach out for a detailed discussion.

Hi sakshamch,

You have a competent profile for ISB. You have nice GMAT score, great work ex. If you add extra curricular and community service in your resume you will have a very well rounded profile. You now just have to prepare an excellent application package. I would be happy to speak with you and discuss your profile over a call. Hope this helps.

Hi Satyendra,

Your work ex is pretty good. Both in terms of numbers and quality. Having a good name on resume always helps. You're already in consulting, although an MBA from ISB will certainly help I hope your expectations are real. Your academic credentials look good too. What about your GMAT ? Get a 700 to be safe. I don't see any extra curricular and community service, I hope you have some involvement. Your profile has potential and can be crafted into a successful one. Which other schools are you looking at?

Best,

Hi Arjun,

You have good work ex. And your undergrad CGPA is also competitive. Try and get a GMAT of around 700 to get into ISB. Apart from this also include your extra curricular and community involvement information in your profile. Make sure to highlight your team work and leadership accomplishments. Hope this helps. Let me know if you'd like to chat over the phone and discuss further.

Hi Deepika,
Is your 3 years of work ex till date or till your matriculate next year ? 3 years is a little less than average but 4 should be good. Your GMAT score is a little below average too and specially affects your profile since you belong to the Engineer background. You do have cookie points because you increase gender diversity. And a lot will depend on how your write your application. As you may already know, don't underestimate the power of community involvement and extra curricular activities. Hope this helps.

Hi sakshamch,

HPCL is a good brand on the resume. The fact that you have been in a managerial position handling large-scale projects adds value too. Good Academics and GMAT too. Extracurriculars aside, you do have a strong profile. Since you've effectively covered all the bases, we think that you should now focus on identifying your goals. With 7+ years of experience, your application can stand apart if you highlight your learnings and strengths well. Back them with good examples, map them to attainable and realistic goals and you have a winner. P.S. a mention of extracurriculars will help too.

Feel free to reach out for a detailed discussion on your essays.

Hi arjunps1988,

Good academics so far, and we think you've rightly identified that the GMAT needs a boost. A score of 700+ or as close as possible to the class average of 710 should be good. The applicant pool from your sector is increasingly becoming competitive and crowded, therefore you need to work on your essays to differentiate yourself. What are your professional achievements? Quality of work experience? Extracurriculars? What about your goals? These would be critical to your application.
We need more information on these to give you a fair evaluation, but if you have clear articulate answers to these questions, then with an improved GMAT score, you would have a great shot at ISB!

Feel free to reach out for a detailed discussion.

Hi,

GMAT: 670(V-33, Q-49)
Gender:Female

Academics:

10th : 84.6%
12th: 94%
B.Tech in ECE(NIT ALLAHABAD)- 8.8 CPI

Work experience- 3 years

I am working in Idea cellular Limited as an assistant manger. My work profile is to monitor and analyse the problems in nework.
Basically, my work is related to communication part.

Hi Deepika17, the single biggest favor you can do to yourself, to increase your chances of an admit, would be to work on your GMAT score and push it up by at least 30-40 points.

Everything else is right now in place, with decent academics, good job experience, and a great undergrad-college.

However, the current GMAT score definitely has the potential to pull you down. So, don't take chances, especially since there are still few months before the deadline hits you.

Hi arjunps1988, our experience so far has been that applicants who have significant work experience in Oil and Gas sector, have a very good experience in operations discipline.

Since ISB school offers a specialization (and considerable options) in Operations discipline, ISB is a good fit for these applicants.

The obvious low point in your profile right now is your GMAT score. However, the good part is that you do realize it and are working towards it. Assuming that you are able to push that score up by 30-40 points, you will make an extremely competent applicant.
