Hello arjunps1988,

To begin with, your academic and professional profiles are quite impressive. Both IIT & ONGC are great brands and we are confident that you will have a number of interesting points to talk about in your application.
Most reputed B-Schools, including ISB look for a complete package to fit in their MBA class and over the past few years, a number of students, who have scored under 700, have made it to ISB. That said, GMAT is important and the higher the score, the better it is ☺
Thus, it is very good that you have identified the area, which requires improvement. We recommend that you concentrate on getting as high a score as you can. A higher score coupled with an application, which showcases a logical sync among your professional experiences, long term, and short-term goals, will give you a good chance at cracking ISB! ☺

All the best!

Hi ghostSatyendra,

The best part about your profile is that your roles and responsibilities flow logically from one to another. This logical flow showcases you as a focused individual :) Also, it is great that you have had your share of achievements, leadership responsibilities, and client-handling experiences.

Moving on, you also have a decent academic record ☺

MBA applications, around the world prefer candidates with a holistic profile. Hence, your current profile, a good GMAT score (preferably 700+), a number of talking points with regard to your extracurricular achievements, along with a well-defined and synchronized set of career goals will help you present a good case at ISB!

We would also like to take this opportunity to offer you a free detailed profile evaluation, should you feel the need for the same! ☺

Good Luck with your future endeavors!

Hi All,

I am currently working as a technical consultant in an IT Company. I have a total work ex of 8 years with two companies.

10th - 91.2%
12th - 86.6%
CGPA - 6.5/10

I have given GMAT twice with scores 610 and 650.

I have worked in various projects for clients in finance, retail, communication and healthcare domain. I started as an oracle developer and now working as a technical lead for a client application. I am looking for a profile change from technical side to business side and hence looking for an MBA.

Extra curricular-

I do not have any NGO experience.

I have been part of arts committee of our college magazine specifically leading the cartoon creation part.

I have been an active participant in cultural activities at school. I have a strong inclination towards arts activities however that is more towards hobby side and participation in activities.

I am looking forward for a one year MBA program.

Request an evaluation on my profile.
I would like to know where do I stand for ISB given I improve upon my GMAT score. ( greater than 700)

Is lack of NGO exp a possible roadblock ?

Thanks

Hello guptaneha :)

The good news is that you have identified the area, which needs to be addressed and will hopefully work towards the same. At the same time, we would like to mention that you have a strong professional background with good leadership experience.

Now, to answer your queries, the lack of NGO experience is definitely not a roadblock. At the same time, however, a holistic application and a candidate’s overall skill-set are definitely preferred at ISB.

At this point, we suggest that you devote your undeterred focus towards strengthening your GMAT score. The higher the score the better it is going to be for you. Once done, you must focus on preparing an application, which focuses on your strengths, your achievements, and the person you are. You could consider enrolling with the Toastmaster’s Club, or any other social club in your vicinity. While these will not be dealmakers, they could help you add an additional element to your profile. At the same time, keep performing at work and try and have as many talking points as you can.

An improved GMAT score, a well-rounded application, and a logical portrayal of your career goals will give you a good chance at cracking ISB!

Should you desire greater clarity with regard to your profile, feel free to reach us for a free profile evaluation.

All the best with your future endeavors ☺

Hello Rishirajchauhan11,

Thank you for sharing your details :)

Let me begin by saying that you not only have a very fine GMAT score but also very strong work experience. Moreover, you shipping experience quite aligns with the course at ISB, which offers a specialization in Operations Management.

Yes, your 10th and 12th standard grades are on the lower side. However, the strengths of your profile far outnumber the low grades and you need not worry about the same. That said, we recommend that you now focus on preparing an application that aptly reflects your strengths, your intent for an MBA, and establishes a logical connection between your professional experience and future goals.

With the above in place, you stand a very good chance at making it to ISB!

Should you feel the need to discuss your profile in greater detail, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

All the best!

The biggest concern I have is the lack of Extra Curriculars. Could you please evaluate my profile and suggest me about how to enhance my profile to get into ISB.

I've heard that ISB prefers candidates from diverse backgrounds. As I am from a non-IT background, Do I have any advantage as such??

While I agree that extra-curricular activities are a plus on your MBA resume, but not having extra curricular activities is not going to bring your application crashing down. You have strong work experience and you should project it properly so that it helps you create a positive impression about yourself.

To answer your second question: B-schools including ISB prefer applicants who will add value to the class. Show them that you are exceptional in some way and that you will add value to the class - this will give you an edge over your competitors (including those from your industry). Draw out stories from your work experience where you demonstrated leadership and made an impact. And also be clear about your career goals and the need for an MBA.

If you are applying in R1, you should just concentrate upon getting a 700+ score rather than looking for other avenues to strengthen your profile. A great GMAT score is in itself a critical requirement.

Hi Sagar,

I'd need to understand more about your work experience - what do you do, how have you grown in your company, what are your work related experiences? Why do you want to work in consulting?

Your GMAT is low and I think it will be a good strategy to retake it.

Hi Rishirajchauhan11,

Your GMAT score more than makes up for your previous grades. Therefore, you need to focus on now articulating your goals and the right answers to why MBA. We've worked with a lot of graduates from merchant navy and we have often seen that they forget the one rule while writing the application: How are you different from the other merchant navy applicants? Make sure your strengths and differentiatiors are well articulated in your essays and you should reach your goal.

Feel free to reach out for a discussion.

Hi maddy2511,

Can you tell us more about the nature and quality of your work experience? Awards at work? Leading a team? What are your post MBA goals? 8 years of work experience put you in the higher work-experience bracket and therefore these matter more than other aspects of your profile.

Hi sagarmehra2015,

Logistics profiles make for great MBA stories for applicants, and you have a good profile. But we feel that the PGDM in marketing and your goal to get into strategic consulting may not flow into a natural story, the kind B-schools like to see in their applications.

680 may not be a deterrent to your application, if you get your story right. We'd like to have a detailed discussion. Feel free to reach out to us.
