Please evaluate my application fitness for Ross. Thanks!

Indian, Male, 29
Dual Degree: MSc Chemistry + BE Chemical Engineering from a top college in India
GPA: 6.08/10 (this is a very weak point in my application, which I will address in the optional essay)
GMAT: 740 (Q50, V41, IR4, AWA6)
WE at matriculation: ~7 years
Professional Experience: Working as a product manager at a major hotel technology firm for ~3 years (will be 3.5 years at matriculation). Worked in client facing support/project management roles at a major airline technology firm for 3.5 years. 5 years of managing projects and products.

Career Progression:
Started off as a client facing product specialist, working with catering teams of major global airlines
Promoted to a Project Management/Consulting oriented Business Analyst, working on higher level projects with same clients
Moved to a Product Management role after 3.5 years in client facing project management teams, currently managing the market leader of Hotel Management technology products.
Strong focus on managing innovation and data science.

Extra Curriculars:
Played soccer semi-professionally in college and set up soccer club.
Set up 2 other major departments in college, led 140 students - largest department in college
Part of CSR Board at 1st company, raised money for NGOs
Working with an organization providing quality children's education

To Address my low GPA:
Took the GMAT again (had a 720 earlier) - Improved my quant score from Q48 to Q50
Took Business Fundamental certification courses by Wharton on Coursera - Marketing, Accounting and Leadership

Why MBA: Looking to build my strategy and leadership skills and gain exposure to other industries
Post-MBA: Grow as a product manager and join a fast paced (read, disruptive) technology company. Use this experience in my long term goal to lead strategy at a tech company.

Why Ross:
I like the cold
MAP Program + Professional Clubs + student led activities
Campus town atmosphere at Ann Arbor = Strong community
Great recruitment for Tech

You are targeting the right set of b-schools with this career goals.
I would definitely ask you to address the low GPA through the optional essay. Talk about the specific reasons why the GPA is low and what you did while you were at college to make up for it.
Also, address the need for an MBA given that you are already a product manager.

Reach out if you need help with your applications.

Hello rajat2807

The outline of your profile looks decent. The challenge for you is establishing a need of an MBA (why can't you get into such a role without an MBA) and why Ross.
If you can present this well in your essays, you have a good shot- no glaring weakness.
You have the goods, now you need to deliver them.

Hello jahjha

While the outline of your profile is decent, you belong to a large and competitive pool of applicants (read Indian IT).
While success will largely depend on the qualitative aspect of your profile (info missing in this post) such as career progression, achievements at work, business impact, contribution in extracurricular (as opposed to a list of activities) and clear career goals. You may want to read on all the factors essential for your written application here and on career goals here.
Your GRE, though decent is at par with that of Ross and may not help you stand out. Not that it will be a deal breaker, but as mentioned above, qualitative strengths will need to be brought out.

Hi Vimal,
from the limited info you have shared, everything looks perfect. The actual application outcome will depend upon your execution of the application. Which means, showcasing a profile that reflects leadership, maturity, career purpose. By leadership i mean, you should demonstrate that you have had significant achievements and impact on your company/clients and in your community.

Reach out if you'd like to discuss in more detail.

Hi holmeschristie001 and congrats on your first GMATClub post!
Also, congratulations on your amazing GMAT Score!

Please note that I am not an admissions consultant, so this will count more as a peer review than a professional profile evaluation.

I think you'll stand a great chance at Ross because of your GMAT and strong work exp.

However, in order to make a strong case for yourself, you will need to clarify your career goals (for eg: why consulting? why MBB? What roles are you considering within FAANG? Why will your experience make you a good fit for those roles?). This clarity will help immensely while answering Ross' Essay 2 (Short Term Goals).
Secondly, you should start attending Ross admissions events ASAP! They provide really good information on professional clubs and admissions tips on the webinars. You should even plan a campus visit if possible.
Thirdly, start your introspection process right away. Think hard about your career so far, and why you took the decisions you did. Ross' Essay 1 short questions are purely behavioural, so you'll need to come up with the right stories to answer the questions.

I suggest that you get in touch with an admissions consultant who will guide you through story-mining and answer-crafting.

Hope this helps!

Hello holmeschristie001

Just based on your great GMAT score your chances of getting in, at any MBA program are really strong

Average GMAT at Ross is 720.

Your major in Engineering is a plus (although I don't know your intended MBA specialization, it would certainly be helpful for any ) GPA is fine.

Working experience is relevant and interesting.

Here is the profile of Ross admitted students that will answer most of your concerns :

Good Luck with application !

If there was a contest on submitting a profile evaluation consisting of the least number of characters, you win! haha jk jk.
But to be honest, a bit difficult to get a read on your personality and what you offer with this info.

Stats are solid and in line with Ross, and you already know; especially for Engineering at a reputable school.
So you are covered there.

Guessing game with citizenship but if you are underrepresented, that will help.
Not likely for any Asians, but not impossible.

MBB is solid at Ross; FAANG as well, which is growing in focus with Scott the DeRue, the new dean, who is kicking ass out there.

To increase your chances demonstrate teamwork/collaboration/communication.

Worried about your EC situation - make sure they can see/feel you as a real person and not a heap o'stats. That does not move or inspire them to pick you.
Show them who you are as a person - that you would play nice with the other kids and present well to recruiters.

If you have some hobbies or things that make you memorable, leverage those on CV and/or interview

Thank you for your reply. The country I am from is most likely underrepresented and not very highly populated (think impoverished Asian countries such as Cambodia, Bhutan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Burma etc.).

While I do have extra curricular activities including leadership positions in two, they are not very high profile and I may not make them the center piece of my application.

As far as team work is concerned, I have had tremendous opportunities at work to collaborate with international colleagues mostly from Europe and Asia in addition to Americans.

I am applying to Ross primarily because of its strength in both consulting and tech. By the time I apply, I will have narrowed my focus to one of these two.

I am also considering retaking the GMAT to increase my score from 750 to around 770. My biggest concerns is that my employer, although F500 with $10 billion in revenue, is not a household name and I don't know of anyone who has applied to B-Schools at my workplace.

Intake Year: 2019

Pre-MBA Career: Public Relations and Communications
Post-MBA Career: Consumer Goods (Marketing and Brand Management)
GMAT: 710
GPA: 3.3
Years of Work Experience: 2

Notes: My GMAT score breakdown is: (710- Q: 49 and V: 38).

A brief on my background: I have worked for two years in a top-notch international PR and Communications agency (post my under-grad) in Mumbai and served a plethora of MNCs and large scale conglomerates across corporate and consumer verticals in those two years. I was among the youngest people at the agency and was promoted within a year of working there. I have also actively helped in crisis and reputation management for one of the largest corporate crisis in India during my stint at the agency, and truly believe that my quality of work experience has been great over the past two years.

I specialised in PR during my undergrad and carried out five internships successfully during the same time. Three at non-profit organizations and two at industry-specific agencies. Through school, college and work, I have always taken up roles of responsibility and leadership, actively looked out for and asked for opportunities and always showcased the urge to learn.

Additionally, I have always actively participated in extra-curriculars at school and college and performed extremely well academically. I would like to do an MBA with a major in marketing, from a top B-school in the US specifically, so as to add to my experience of PR and communications and achieve concentric growth around my core competencies. Furthermore, coming from a advertising and PR background, I have a fair understanding of the changing communication landscape and would like to deep dive into understanding brand management, disruptive marketing and ways to break through the current clutter to create an impact or spearhead behavioural change.

That aside, in the long run I would like to join the C-suite of an MNC, lead from the forefront and create a lasting impact on the society using my position. However, to get there, I do believe that it is important for me to venture out into relatively new territories for me, i.e. finance, accounting, sustainability, micro-economics and macroeconomics among the others. Hence the MBA.

Furthermore, why the MBA now? Well, because I want to make the switch from the agency side to the corporate side now, and no better way to bridge the gap than do an MBA that would provide me with a holistic understanding of the other side, before I step into it.

Starting today, I have about 50 days till the round 2 deadline to get my essays in place. Does Ross seem like a good option and what are my chances basis my profile?

Note: By matriculation, it would be about 2 years and 7/8 months of work experience

Hi there, and thanks for writing! A couple of thoughts based on your profile:

- Ross is very competitive, and even more so for Indian applicants. For GMAT, I'd aim for at least a 730, preferably higher
- Average # of years of work experience is 4-6, so your application may be stronger next year and you may have more to offer to the class. Plus, waiting would give you time for a GMAT retake if you are open to that
- Do you have post-collegiate extracurricular involvement? If so, this would strengthen your profile

Hope that helps a bit! Overall, given the above, I would wait a year to apply.

I will be applying through the Consortium in round 2, I would like to know if I have a legitimate chance at Ross.

Background:
29 year old Hispanic male from a low-income household.
Enlisted U.S military prior to attending undergrad, graduating in spring 2019.
Neither parent attended college with one parent not completing high school.

Undergrad:
Big 12 Public school in Texas, not UT (Hometown university)
2.9 GPA (Economics major, minor in Chinese)
GPA will likely be my biggest hurdle. I come from a family, both immediate and extended, with no post-secondary education. After my time in the military, I wanted to change that trend. Early academic struggles were due to my unfamiliarity with college academics while balancing working 30 hours a week. I still work the same amount per week, but much better time management.

My GPA is weighed down from "C's" and "D's" in introductory courses like Pre-Calculus, Intro to Anthropology, and freshman English.
After learning how to approach college academics I saw a significant improvement in my performance.

I have made "A's" and "B's" in:
Managerial Economics
Intermediate and Advanced Chinese
Intermediate Macroeconomics/Microeconomics
Calculus
and most of the other Economic courses I have taken.

GMAT: 620(cannot recall split)
This was a testing of the waters, going in I fully intended on retaking a second time. I have been using TTP for quant and MGMAT for verbal. I scored a 660 on my most recent practice exam. I have another 5 weeks of extensive studying before I sit in mid-December. I am fully invested in making up for my GPA though the GMAT exam.

Work Experience and Leadership:
I feel this is the strength of my application. Early in my career I began to seperate myself from my peers. I was given a waiver to attend an enlisted leadership academy, I was too junior in rank and only 19 years old. I made the most of the opportunity and was 1 of only 4 honor graduates in a class of about 240. A year later, while deployed to Afghanistan, I was selected to instruct courses to Afghan police officers. Using an interpreter, I taught classes in marksmanship, first aid, and basic law enforcement tactics. While in Afghanistan I was nominated and approved for promotion to Sergeant, ahead of several peers senior to myself. I received multiple awards for accomplishments in leadership positions towards the backend of my career.

Post MBA goals:
Transition into consulting to develop expertise in a specific field, then transition into a management role after a few years.

I have my mind set on attending a T15 business school. I am applying to 5 of these programs this year, knowing there is a legitimate possibility I can strike out at all five. Should that happen, I will stay at my current university for a 2nd major in Chinese and reapply next year. If I do need to reapply I will target T15 again, but add a few programs like McCombs and Jones(Rice).

I am targeting schools that have a reputation of being military friendly, with the exception of Yale. I understand Yale is likely out of my league, but I feel culturally it is the best fit for me. I am applying to Kellogg, Yale, Tuck, Ross, and Johnson. Any advice would be appreciated!

Hi, can you please help me with my profile evaluation.
GMAT: I just gave my GMAt and scored 620(Q48, V28, AWA5, IR5).
Work experience: I have more than 5 years of experience that includes 2.5 years of start-up experience being a part of founding team and now as a Product Manager leading a team for almost 2.5 years. Throughout this experience I have been working in the IT & Communications domain.
Graduation: I have done Mechanical Engineering with Maharishi Dayanand University(58%)
Goals: I want to venture into artificial intelligence domain and finally pivot my entrepreneurial journey. For me the ideal mba location would be Canada or South East as these are tech brewing regions and alumni network is something I would thrive for. Ideally looking for a 12-14 month course with scholarship options.

Can you please help me what are my options?
