The bottom line is that you want to continue on working in the private equity world, there are really only a small set of schools that are universally respected in that world. The schools would include Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, MIT, Chicago and Columbia. Of course, I am sure there would be many bankers that would argue this, but this is really what I have heard for my own clients that are coming out of PE want to go back into it.
That being said, I believe that you have a pretty good shot at Chicago and Columbia. I think that MIT is also a realistic possibility, along with Wharton. I think the stretch schools -- of course -- are Harvard and Wharton. This is simply for the fact that I have a limited set of information based on what you provided and your GMAT score is slightly lower at 700.
what is going to help you is the nature of your current role. It is both international and it is in an area that most MBA students would kill to get into after their graduation from business school. So congratulations on being ahead of the curve. The one thing you will have to pay very close attention to schools other than MIT and HBS, are your career goals. You need to make sure that you are absolutely dictating why you need an MBA and how it will not be viewed as are percent by you.
In the long-term, have you ever thought about working for a fund such as the acumen fund short and may be a good long-term play for your goal in your MBA essays. think about it as it could increase your stock at a school like Stanford.
by the way, business schools love varsity athletes. They view these individuals as being very well-rounded -- of course if they could maintain your grades, which seems to be the case with you.

Hi, would appreciate a quick assessment on the below profile.
FT MBA
GPA: 3.8 in Economics (distinction), cum laude from HYP school, class of '07
EC's: 4 year varsity team member, various other clubs & publications. Worked, studied, volunteered abroad extensively (every summer) during college.
GMAT: 700 (47 Q, 40 V), took back in '07 just after starting work.
Work Experience: 2 years private equity in US after graduation, 1.5-2 years venture capital in frontier emerging market in southeast Asia (work is more operational/entrepeneurial than finance related since we work pretty extensively with the companies we invest in)
EC's: Some volunteer work, tutoring & teaching experience, do a fair bit of interviewing and marketing for alma mater here in Asia, manage a softball team in a local expat softball league, significant amount of time though has been devoted to studying the local language with a tutor.
I am looking to apply to a few schools this fall '11. Likely going to focus on the top 10. I work with HBS alums and one or two would give a good recommendation.
Thanks
