Hello ,

I request you to scan my profile and suggest some colleges as I would apply for MBA September - 2020 intake .

GMAT :710

Bachelor's : 3.1 GPA
Post graduate diploma in advertising and Marketing communications - 75%
St. Xavier's , Mumbai

Work experience - 19 months

I would be entering the batch with a work experience of around 2.5 years

Work profile : Brand Strategist

I have worked at a national experiential agency for above a year where I would conceptualize events , activations and campaigns for various multinationals such as HUL , SAP , SIEMENS , ORIFLAME etc.

Worked as both - leader in projects worth 7 million dollars for SAP and team player for other projects , I have extensively worked in conceptualization and execution of Advertising and marketing communication for a range of industries that span across IT , FMCG and AUTO .

Number of employees in company : 250-300

Company background :
One of the largest and oldest experiential agency in India with work heavily skewed towards designing on ground consumer experience.
Shobiz Experiential communications

My projects constantly involved heavy interaction with the Account Management team , design team and the main client to align the Marketing communication and thus , I have heavy cross-functional team experience.

Extra curricular :
Worked on a start-up project while pursuing PGD that leveraged the concept of upcycling and succeeded in producing the product. This required me to team up with professors at my PGD .

LED a group of volunteers to impart education and certain set of skills to less privileged kids

Served in the capacity of Cultural President at high school for a year that helped me in organising all the events and co-ordinate with a team of juniors.

I will be waiting for feedback.

Hi vaibhavijobalia,

Thank you for your post. In order to opine on potential schools, I would love to hear more about your post-MBA goals, geographic interests, and the type of MBA you wish to pursue (2 year, 1 year, etc.). The best thing to do would be sign up for a Free Consultation so that we can have a more nuanced, back-and-forth discussion, and you can ask follow-up questions. You can sign up for a Free Consultation here:

Beyond that, you appear to have a nice foundation, but your work experience is going to be on the light side for most full-time programs. In the U.S., the most common average across top schools is 5 years of work experience, and you'll typically find that middle 80% ranges for these schools hover in the "3-to-7" or "3-to-8" year range, depending on the program. If you're only going to have 2.5 years of experience at enrollment, you'll be hoping to get in despite having among the lowest amount of work experience of anyone in a given class.

Numbers aside, not having worked for very long can limit the degree to which you'll be able to show advancement, impact, and leadership relative to the other applicants you're up against, and limit the depth of your recommendations. People certainly apply at the same juncture as you, but I find that you are typically reducing your upside (in terms of schools / where you'd get in) relative to if you were to apply in the next one, two, three, or even four years. The statistics bear this out as well: ... 39142.html

(This phenomenon would be even more pronounced among European programs, which trend even older than U.S. programs.)

In summary, I think that a first major consideration for you would be whether this is the best year to apply. If you end up with more time (i.e., applying next year or some other time in the future), then you might also consider improving your GMAT score (as your current score would likely preclude you from the top tiers of programs) and continuing to deepen your professional and extra-professional experiences. You can read more about related application topics here: ... on-process
