I am planning on applying in round 1 this fall and was hoping to get some feedback on my candidacy. I am planning on applying to LBS, Cambridge, and Oxford. I am very interested in living abroad (from US) and working in London following graduation in financial services. My details are as follows:

GMAT: 710, 46Q (71%), 42V (96%), IR 8, AWA 6
Undergrad: Degree in Finance, minor in economics from state school
GPA: 3.77/4.0
Controller for Student Government in college, also worked throughout as I paid my own tuition
Currently I work for a federal financial regulator and have for the past three years. I have had solid career progression, and have received agency-wide recognition for my work. I am looking to move from the publice sector to the private sector and believe the MBA is the best opportunity to leverage this move
Extracurriculars: Committee chair for cancer fundraising event

I appreciate any input you have into my candidacy!!

I like how you are positioned going into application season. If you can tell a compelling story about the perspective you have gained in the public sector and sell them on the reasons why you want to transition to the private sector in financial services then you could be set up for a memorable application--one that might just be unique compared to others. Your GMAT is good and helps balance out the state school education, although perhaps you went to a top 10 state school. If so, even better. Make sure you do your homework on whether or not you will be able to work abroad. There are some pretty restrictive rules about banks hiring US citizens if there are able-bodied domestics available. Sometimes the graduate degree is the ticket in, so perhaps you have already looked into this angle. I agree that if you want to work "across the pond" you are making the right decision to go to school there.
