Hi everyone,
I would love to hear your opinions on my profile
Targeting: Harvard, Wharton, Stanford, MIT, Booth, LBS & INSEAD.
Demographic: 26 year old, Male (black/mixed)
Education: (From a top Canadian university)
BComm - Finance GPA: 3.52
BA - Economics GPA: 3.35
Work experience:
This is where things get a bit hairy. I don't have much conventional work experience but I'm starting at an MBB firm in August with plans to work for 2 years before applying to schools.
Prior to this, I was a professional athlete for 4 years in Canada while completing my second degree. I have experience with 3 startups. The first was a construction business that I co-founded and operated for 4 years during my first undergrad and ultimately sold to a larger competitor. The second is a sports camp mentoring and coaching at risk and underprivileged youth. The third is another sports performance business that is focused on year round training and development for youth athletes. I continue to manage both sports businesses at a limited capacity as I transition to consulting.
Extracurriculars:
Finance club during undergrad.
Coaching and mentoring youth athletes.
Coaching a youth football team.
Full-scholarship student athlete during undergrad.
Caribbean association volunteer.
Orphanage volunteer in Haiti.
Frequent visits to children's hospital with teammates through a joint program with the hospital.
Frequent visits to elementary schools with teammates to showcase the power of sports and education.
I am a month into my GMAT prep ~ 15 hours a week of study. I scored a 590 Q45 V26 on my first practice test and I have completed the quant review. I'm consistently getting 80-90% of M-H questions correct, aiming for Q49+. The bulk of the focus will be on Verbal from now until test day. I'm planning to write mid-end July. Goal: 710+
Post MBA goals are to return to the firm working on non-profit and public sector engagements with long term plans to transition to a non-profit related to sports and education.
Thanks for reading and looking forward to the feedback.
