What does "it refer to? Is it valid in GMAT sc?

It here is a hanging pronoun, which is usually wrong on the GMAT, and does not refer to anything given in the sentence. Please note that it is NOT always wrong. One has to go through the answer choices.

Here is a practice problem.

Is there any specific rule for this in GMAT world?


I am not quite sure about this but as far as I know, you must search the answer choices with no pronoun ambiguity and find something wrong with those choices to even consider options with pronoun ambiguity.
