Between B and C, I chose C because 'tells the story' seemed more appropriate

This question is from powerscore and its explanation states that C is incorrect bc of incorrect modification. Is that true?

Please tell the source of question.
A and D -Modifier error
B , C and E -"She" cannot point to possessive "woman's descent" .if we ignore this -- B is best, in C the story of a woman's descent is not correct

The question starts with "Published in 1892," so after the coma it must say what was published. So we can narrow it to B and E. Between the 2, B is more clear and proper compared to E.

Opened in 1869, the Transcontinental Railroad had immediate and far-reaching effects on America, including a population explosion in the West, the decline of Native Americans, the joining of East Coast culture and Western convention, and cultivation of thousands of acres of new farm land.

Why isn't an article necessary before cultivation? Is it because cultivation is already a noun? Is it wrong to add an article before cultivation? All but the last item on the list has an article; is that still considered parallel?

This sentence is from powersource.

I was between b and c. i chose b because of the "descent into" vs "descent in". Descent into is more appropriate and thus b was the answer for me

A) Charlotte Gilman Perkins tells the story of a woman's descent in madness when she is confined to a room by her dictatorial husband in The Yellow Wallpaper
B) The Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Gilman Perkins, describes a woman's descent into madness when she is confined to a room by her dictatorial husband
C) Charlotte Gilman Perkins' The Yellow Wallpaper tells the story of a woman's descent in madness when she is confined to a room by her dictatorial husband
D) a woman's descent in madness when she is confined to a room by her dictatorial husband is told by Charlotte Gilman Perkins in The Yellow Wallpaper
E) The Yellow Wallpaper tells of a woman's descent into madness when she is confined to a room by her dictatorial husband, a story by Charlotte Gilman Perkins

if we examine all the choices vertically then A and D is the instant elimination
Published in 1892 there is no way person can be pubblished
in C it says that book is telling the story which is not correct
E also on the same lines is incorrect

B is the correct answer

Published in 1892, Charlotte Gilman Perkins tells the story of a woman's descent in madness when she is confined to a room by her dictatorial husband in The Yellow Wallpaper.

The underlined sentence has to begin with the published book, because the first part of the sentence refers to it. Therefore, we can preclude A) and D).
E) is incorrect, because "a story by Charlotte Gilman Perkins" at the end of the sentence doesn't really fit into the sentence structure.

This narrowed the options down to B) and C). We have the choice between "descent into" and "descent in". To me, "descent into" is more idiomatic in this case, because she "enters" the state of madness, if you get what I mean.

Thus, answer B) is correct.
