Fact is, my preparation time was hardly 3 weeks. I was bogged down with hectic work at office and could hardly squeeze out time for preparing. This is what I did:
- Went over important concepts from here and there. My weak areas were number theory, probability, inequalities and permutations and combinations(I learnt the concepts co-ordinate geometry and inequalities from GMATClub).
- Took practice tests from GMATPrep to assess where I stand. Assessed myself based on the scores and again attempted the tests. I kept writing these until the last day.
I think the fact was that I did not dedicate a lot of time for my preparation. I was scoring between 620 to 680 in my practice tests and had NO preparation whatsoever for English. Quants, well, that was never a very strong area of mine, but I had an issue with time management during the exam, due to which I had to keep guessing the last few questions without working them out. Also, when you aren't prepared, your mind knows it isn't and that affects the nerves. So yes, some of the problems that I would have solved in a jiffy during practice tests looked tougher and took me a lot more time to solve than they normally would
. I believe with the better preparations my scores would have definitely gone up; however, I was keen to get through some decent school by fall 2010 and I had already delayed my exams till the end of Dec.
Can anyone please advice on what schools I can look for with this score? I have been googling a lot, and found places where they say 640 can get into decent B Schools(rank 15-30) with good essays.
