In the 2nd step the 3*x*(1/x) here x and 1/x gets canceled out and remaining [x+1/x] is known to be 5 as stated in the question. So substitute 5 in place of [x+1/x] in step 3

I guess it should be (C) – TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER ALONE is sufficient.

Set up a table with the elapsed time, the actual time, and the displayed time. Start at 3:20pm for actual and displayed, and make time elapsed 0. Then after 1 hour, actual time is 4:20pm and displayed time is 1:20pm. Continue that pattern until the two times overlap - I agree it should be 11:20pm. Please correct me if my method is flawed

Approach is if we think of 3:20am as a loop of time of 24 hours. The clock starts going in reverse direction in double speed so when we move x hours forward in time the clock goes 2x hours in reverse. And the point where these two meets for the first time shall be our answer. And after 8 hrs the actual time will move forward 8 hrs while the clock will move 16 hrs in reverse direction to meet the actual time. So 3:20am+8hrs = 11:20am.

Yes so 3:20am + 8hrs = 11:20 am is our answer. Correct me if I am wrong or didnt understand you correctly.
