Probably push more test takers to opt for GFE since GMAC doesn’t want to spend any further on the R&D of question bank for the classic one?
but GMAT does not need to do that - if classic is discontiuned, test-takers need to take FE anyway

I say, let’s not make this a CR question. Let’s talk to GMAC and let them answer this

Hi all, I scored 550 on my gmat 1st attempt after 2 months of dedicated prep. Score was Q39, V27, IR-5 and AWA-5. I am from commerce and economics background, currently working as Tax Consultant in big 4 with 5+ years of experience. I want to retake the exam and looking for some suggestions here. I am confused between gmat FE and GRE. Actual gmat exam was pretty tough compared to mocks. I’ll have to switch the entire prep bcoz of DI if I go for GMAT FE. Not sure but I have heard GRE is somewhat easier than GMAT. Will really appreciate any ideas/help.
GRE and GMAT are very similar

GMAT quant is mildly harder, GRE has more time pressure. Biggest gap is between the verbal, in which GRE is somewhat more difficultb

I had a similar to experience, i was averaging 660-680 in every mock i gave(the official ones and even the manhattan ones which are considered more difficult). I was more than confident in my ability to atleast get a 650+ but i scored only 520 thats like more than a 100 point drop

The quant questions were way too hard i was getting standard deviation by q-11 lol. Verbal was okay but i guess i was just a bit discouraged by then. A few of my college peers had similar drops too in their actual score. Exponential ones actually all within the last 1-2 months

I’ve been reading about a lot of people doing great on mocks and then having a massive score drop in the actual test, wonder what that’s about

There is something fishy definitely the difficulty levels are way too high on the classic as compared to the og and this sudden rise in difficulty is evident within the span of last 1-2 months

I recall getting a std deviation question early on as well, which surprised me. However, the actual topic tested wasn’t that hard. Overal I recognise the same sentiment from this discussion in my last attempt from late September. It "felt" more difficult than the mocks, but this entire thread could be one big confirmation and survivorship bias.

I understand your point about how the thread could be a reassurance to everyone but multiple similar experiences do point onto something. Either way if there is a knowledge gap the mocks aren’t “mocks” anymore realistically to the difficulty level being created by Gmac

Third party mocks are not great. You should always base yourself on official GMAC mocks

This is a common occurrence, as most people do not prepare properly leading to sudden score drops. I can tell you that from my experience I scored between 710 and 760 in my mocks, and my final result was within that range.

I cant speak for GMAT. But this has been a thing that I’ve noticed with certain international exams. I am not gonna reveal which ones. The pass rates or exam marks gets tweaked to make it seem hard when in actual fact, the exams are doable. I am in no way accusing GMAT. Unfortunately, the harsh reality is that these things do happen but in silence.
There is no official information online about these exams whose names and titles I dont plan to reveal and how they tweak the results. But only students and lecturers are aware of it.
I am sharing this solely for those who have worked hard and felt the pain of their efforts not paying off.
Sometimes, the problem isnt with you. But unfortunately, you will never get the official answers you wish to get. Welcome to the harsh reality of life.

and yet, people who are well prepared (take tutors for example) perform consistently well

People are anxious enough over test scores as is, there is no need to spread baseless rumours

A kind request. Its very easy to judge people until you have been in their shoes

Speaking as someone who have previously been able to consistently score well in my exams despite certain traumatic events in my life.
I personally do not judge other people who are even more privilege than me who fail to live up to certain societal expectations.
Its very easy to point fingers. But you really arent in another persons shoes.

Also, ignoring exam Anxiety, there are so many other factors that contributes.

An exam as costly as the gmat considering not everyone is filthy rich and as important for our careers should atleast have mocks which give an ideal score range of +-30 points. Not a big ask really

Difficulty levels are relative and nothing is essentially difficult a q-50 question pool can be cracked by anyone with ample practice and aptitude development the problem here is the lack of relevant resources. Even by gmac official resources
