Positive solution is not possible as it says left of 0 and for n^2 less than 1/100, n^2 should be 1/121 , 1/144.... So n will be +- 1/11, +-1/12.... But positive is not allowed so n will be -1/11,-1/12.... And reciprocal of n will be -11,-12,-13.... So answer will be less than -10

a-book-has-100-pages-numbered-from-1-to-100-some-of-its-pages-are-424603.html

Hi Team this question is asked yesterday by Bunuel yesterday, can some one see this. I think they should ask minimum torn page . But not sure

A book has 100 pages numbered from 1 to 100. Some of its pages are torn. If the sum of the numbers of the untorn pages equals 4949, how many pages are torn?

A. 1
B. 2
C. 3
D. 4
E. 5

My response is I think the question should ask minimum number of pages.

because sum of all is 5050 and if remove 4949 remaining is 101 and there are multiple ways we can remove
Remove pages 1, 2, 3, 5, and 90.
Remove pages 1, 2, 3, 4, and 91.
Remove pages 1, 2, 3, 6, and 89.
Remove pages 1, 2, 3, 7, and 88.
Remove pages 1, 2, 3, 8, and 87.
Remove page 100 and 1

Hi Ignore this, I think my thought process is wrong, a book has page number both side, so if 1 page torn, two page number will be removed. My bad, ignore this

Mate I think the question is not correct. How can a^ (2b) be less than 0? Isn’t it always greater than equal to 0?

( -ve or +ve number) ^ 2( -ve or +ve) is greater than equal to 0

What if b=1/2 and a=-1? We are not given that b is an integer, therefore we need to examine all the possibilities (even if in this case, the question was written incorrectly). a^2b is an integer only if b itself is also some integer, because otherwise it would be possible to remove the power of 2 with fractions.

Yeah you are correct. I should have thought about fractions also. I think this is one of the major traps I sometimes fall into. Assume a number to be an integer or not considering number "0" etc

But in actual test I write down the given constraint in bold letters, even if it takes 10 more sec for each question. This is how I have been able to reduce my silly errors significantly.
