Hi, could anyone explain the logic behind my GMAT Focus Quant & Verbal score scale here? I got 81 Quant and 83 Verbal in my latest actual exam.
Quant: got 3 questions wrong (2nd, 19th, 20th; turned 17th question from incorrect to correct)
Verbal: got 5 questions wrong.
My correct streak within Quant was 14.
And for Verbal, my longest correct streak was 7.

So I’m abit confused how my Quant scale score is lower than Verbal here, since my streak is higher and I got higher % of correct answers in Quant?

As per my understanding, people get more quant questions correct as compared to verbal and hence the percentile in quant goes down significantly when getting a question wrong, on the other hand, not many people get difficult questions correct in verbal and hence percentile does not drop much when getting a verbal question wrong.

Hmm, totally get your point. But I think that mechanic applies when the score is turned into a percentile. But the score itself is maybe not a curved based on the population performance?

I have never taken the old GMAT before. But from my GMAT Focus experience, I feel like the difficulty is similar to what you get in OG practice & mocks.

For me, I prefer GMAT Focus Quant since I don’t have to deal with Geometry haha.

81Q, 83V, 76DI. Overall Score: 605

Did pretty badly in DI since I feel like DI has alot more information thrown at you, so I didn’t have enough time to properly analyze and answer several DI questions.

I’ve already scheduled another exam on March 18th.

I started preparing seriously for 1.5 months before my first actual exam. Practiced ~600 OG questions, did 2 Focus mocks (595, 615 scores).

But I found that I didn’t spend enough time on reviewing concepts and fundamentals, which would’ve helped me make better use of my practice questions and mock exams.

Plan to do 2-3 more mock exams before my 2nd actual exam date. Hopeful for 645+ GMAT score as I aim for top MBAs in the UK.

it’d be 655+ for Focus edition.

I think the best material will always be the Official Guide. But you can use GMAT Club or other sites to supplement/find more detailed explanations of concepts/theories/techniques.

I’ve never tried any non-official mocks, so can’t really answer you on that sadly.

But 6 mocks is still alot. So maybe u can spend some time with practice questions and concepts first before doing the mock exams, and try to space them out. Analyze how you can improve before the next mock.

605 with 1.5 month of preparation is a good score, I prepared for around 6 months and have GMAT classic exam and got a 660 was aiming for atleast 700 but now thinking of studying again for couple of month and give again in March end. Could you suggest any good course or study material which you found helpful?

Yeah that’s 2025 August intake, some colleges have January intake as well, I am planning for 2025 January intake, I don’t have a target score in my mind at the moment, will be giving GMAT focus edition mock test in couple of days to see where I stand currently and will decide my target then .

Personally, I’ve been sticking solely with the GMAT Official Guide book, for both concepts and practice. However, I use GMAT Club a whole lot to look up the different approaches people use to solve the official questions. I think this has helped me to constantly become more efficient at tackling problems.

I never really used any other sources/sites, but I have heard people praising GMAT Ninja youtube videos alot. Haven’t gotten around to watching them yet tho.

Oh, does this mean that you’ll have to submit your application in the middle of this year for Jan 2025 intake?

May I ask which school are you applying to? Curious since I’ve not come across MBA program in the UK with January intake before.
