In 2001, the total revenue of Company X was $640 million whereas the total revenue of Company Y was $40 million. After 2001, the revenue of Company I increases by 300 percent every year whereas the revenue of Company X increases by 700 percent every two years. How many years after 2001 will the two companies have the same revenue?
Hi
Is the correct answer 8 years?

I wanted to ask If I redeem my GMAT club points for 10 days access to TTP course, will I get access to all the test available at TTP or it’ll be limited like how to give in 5 days trial?

For X-> after n years Revenue = 2^(1.5n)*640
And for Y -> after n years Revenue = 2^(2n)*40
Equate them you get n=8

So, to solve this revenue should be equal after x years.

For Company X, the growth every 2 years is 700%(x 8 times of original)
For Company Y, the growth every year is 300% (x 4 times of original)

Initial revenue of X/ Initial revenue of Y = 640/40 = 16 times

Factor of change in revenue every two years for X/Y = 8/4*4 = 1/2 times

Hence in 8 years factor of change in revenue for X/Y = 1/2^4 = 1/16 times

Therefore after 8 years the revenue should be same.

Hi Bunuel, I think this statement "When will the average of two numbers (Number1 + Number2)/2 be an integer? When the sum of the two numbers is even! " in Part I of advanced-number-properties-on-gmat-all-5-parts-194102.html is very difficult to comprehend because for this statement to hold true, for 1x5 the avg taken is of 1 and 5, while for 4 x 5, the avg taken is over 6 and 4 instead of 4 and 5. This will not be an easy path to the answer described unless I don’t know. Do you think I am missing something or can this statement be simplified?

Hi Haffun, think of this question as an equation. (x+y)/2 = integer. ----> (x+y) = 2*integer. From this we can see that X + Y must be an even number, since even * even = even, or even * odd = even

Hello Gmat Fellas, Bunuel, et al, do you know the right keywords to search for problems which we are asked how many 1 cents 5 cents 10 cents 25 cents should be in a situation. I think I lack of basic understanding in this type of question.

Hey Guys I have been trying to solve the questions in GMAT club according to the levels. and I believe some of them are too tough to even be considered in GMAT, as I have solved all OG questions, given many tests

and haven’t found questions of that level

OG is just for basics

You can’t get a high score just by solving OG

This would be a sub type of word problems but best option is to try min/max
