the available proportions can get the answer for these sums. Let’s say I have a 20 litres mixture of milk and water with 75% milk contain. There is another X litres of mixture containing 60% Milk, and if I wish to create a mixture with 66%of milk content, First I will find the difference between the available proportions and desired proportion.

In this case,
Diffe between 75-66 = 9
Diffe between 60-66 = 6, Now we use them altered values for their ratio:
75:60
| |
6 : 9
Simplifying the ratio;
2 : 3

As it can be seen in the ratio 2/5 is actually given as 20 litres,
The needed quantity of other mixture is 30 Litres

this method can help find the total quantity needed for final mixtures also. (note: if the second mixture does not have a common content then take it as 0% i.e. here one milk proportion was 75% and other was 60%, if the second liquid is only pure water then use it as 0% milk and calculate the difference with desired proportion.)

hi everyone, I am using target test prep and I am a bit confused. Isn’t it wrong to first subtract 8 from 12 and then divide it?

While solving any such ques you can use PEMDAS approach(PEMDAS is an acronym for the words parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction.) Hope it helps!

The first option is wrongly mentioned, it should be x+z>y+z. This question is discussed here: if-x-z-y-z-then-which-of-the-following-must-be-true-292352.html
