But I wanna know how can I narrow it down b/w D and B without actually calculati g
I picked the bigger ratio because you subtract 1 from a smaller number

so the ratio is even smaller if that makes sense

you picked a lower aproximation, and then subtracted 1 - that makes the ratio 3/4, so it should be over that

33/40 is over, but not by that much - its very close to 3/4

imo I dont think a real gmat would have such narrow choices without an obvious way to calculate

so if you can use number sense to get down to just B/D you did great

2 Models with 4 colour options each, we need to pick 3 with some constraint...-
ways of choosing this stuff
case1: pick all three of A or B = 4C3 * 2 = 8
case2: pick 2 from A and 1 from B (or vice-versa) = 4C2 * 2C1 * 2 = 24

Total = 8 + 24 ways = 32 ways

option B ?

What is the value of integer x?

(1) x + x^2 = 0
(2) |x| + x^2 = 2x

Source: Others | Difficulty: Medium
Solving for 1 we get x=0 or -1
Solving 2:
x>0
x+x^2=2x
x^2-x=0
x=0 or 1
x<0
x^2-3x=0
x(x-3)=0
x=0 or 3
x=3 does not work if we substitute back into the original equation, so we can ignore that solution. Insuff
C) the only value is 0. Thereofre C
Your answer is correct, just a side thought -

We don’t have to check for x < 0, as the left hand side of the equation will always be non negative. For values of x < 0, the right hand side of the equation becomes negative :)

Kudos for participating actively in the group :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

C

I think it can be solved as follows -

2√5-1/4
2*2.23-1/4
4.46-1/4
3.46/4 = 34.6/40
where 34.6 nearly equal to 35

Otherwise also 3.46/4 =0.86 and 35/40 = 0.87

Hence, 35/40 is the closest snd the correct answer.
