Range of two combined sets would be minimum when one’s maximum coincides with another’s minimum.

It’s about overlap. Larger the overlap smaller the range.

"...when one’s maximum coincides with another’s minimum" may not give the minimum combined range. If you take the above example, let June’s range be from 0 to 20 F and July be from 20 to 45 F....now if you coincide June’s maximum with July’s minimum, you get a range from 0 to 45 F.

Good question. Does this help? This is from the HELP section:

When MDAS is on, the operations buttons can be pressed more than once in succession to operate with the current display value. For example 3+= would return 6 (3 + 3).
3++= would return 9 (3 + 3 + 3).
3++**-= would return 30 (3 + 3 + 3 * 3 * 3 - 3).
Pressing the equals button more than once does nothing.

When MDAS is off, pressing the operations buttons more than once would cause the operation to be performed on the current display value. For example 3++**-= would return 0 (since the last display value of 20736 would be subtracted by itself). Pressing equals more than once repeats the last operation. For example 3+2*5=== would return 625 (25 * 5 * 5).

You can play with the calculator here: gmat-calculator-in-di-section-simulator-435873.html

So, I think you would Turn OFF MDAS, and then do 1.01 * = and keep pressing = sign another 6 times. Then multiply times 10

Interesting! Is this a random thought or did you come across a question where such a calculation had to be done on the calculator?

Just as a side note, 1.01 ^ x is almost equal to 1.0x for x = 0 to 9....So, 1.01 ^ 8 can be approximately taken as 1.08

Just a random ques did you use the Gmat calculator in your real test? If yes, how was it?

I just tried a practice question where I had to calculate compound interest. I thought it would be easier to use a calculator, but after several failed attempts, I realized I didn’t know how to compute it correctly ,so I though I should ask for help

I cant exactly recall but I think I used it probably twice....One was a highest percentage change graph question and another was on a math based MSR question. Identical to one on the official mock tests...that old school red, white and blue one.

Thank you for your response. But I must admit that I am really worried about this new calculator and need to practice a lot to get used to it.

To be honest, there is absolutely nothing to worry about! The actual calculation you’ll end up doing on it will be very trivial (basic arithmetic) and nothing over the top!

Yeah, I absolutely agree with you. I honestly don’t rely on these calculators. I usually apply my mental mathematical skills. It’s only when the calculation turns out to be so ugly. Thanks for your suggestions and clarification on my doubt.

IMO statements alone are not sufficient. Together they are sufficient. The reason is that each statement gives information about a part of the filling process, and you cannot assume the rate is constant because the problem does not say so
