Yes

1/D+1/E=1/t ,
Q: is E/2<3 ?

1) t<3 I.e 1/t>1/3 not suff alone
2) D>360min=6hr
I.e 1/D<1/6 I.e -1/D>-1/6
not suff alone

Combining 1)+ 2) :
1/E=1/t-1/D >1/3-1/6=1/6
Ie E<6
Ie E/2< 3

Re: Quant Question of the Day Chat [#permalink]
If you take avg score of 30 students is x and x<50 ,
Then total score of 10 top scorers=58*40-30x=2320-30x>2320-30*50=820
I.e average of top 10 students >82
Now taking x=49,
Average of top 10 students=85

Can u pls think of a better way?

Re: Quant Question of the Day Chat [#permalink]
10 students scored above 70
And, 30 scored below 50

30 could have a max score of 49
Hence, the difference from avg score of 58 is 9 marks (i.e 58-49)
The total shortfall of the score of 30 students to make an average of 58 marks will be 270 marks (9 marks each of 30 students)

This shortfall of 270 will be filled by 10 students who scored above 70
So, avg score of students above 70 will be
= 58 + (270/10)
= 58 + 27
= 85

So, avg score of students above 70 will be
= 58 + (270/10)
= 58 + 27
= 85
This seems okayish but I am just thinking why should we try maximising the average of 30 people and then minimising for 10 people and get the answer? Any strong intuition behind doing that?

85, 88, 91, 94...keep on adding 3 till 232...there are 50 possible answers to the question....The question should say "which of these is correct

correct"? Or something like the smallest possible.....
