Hello All,

I just gave my mock and i was very disappointed with my score. DS killed me. Guys please advise as to how can i tame this beast. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Subhrajyoti,

DS questions are unique to the GMAT, and it takes time to properly train to handle them, so it's okay if you're not an expert yet.

I'd like to know a bit more about how you've been studying and your goals/timeline:

1) How long have you been studying?
2) What materials have you been using?
3) What is your score goal?
4) How did you score on this CAT Test (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores)?
5) When you say you got "killed" by DS, what fraction of your DS questions did you get wrong?

Thanks Rich. I have been studying for 6 months. I got q17 got 22 questions wrong i got 13 ds q wrong. I use og 13

While the OG13 is a great book for practice questions, it's not really designed to teach you tactics, pattern-matching skills or any of the built-in "secrets" to the GMAT. As such, you might need to invest in some additional practice resources.

What is your overall score goal?
When are you planning to take the GMAT?

I am planning to take Gmat next month. I want a score of 700+.

Hi subhro,

You mentioned the Q17, but what was your Overall Score and your Verbal Scaled Score?

With a 700+ score goal, taking the GMAT next month might not be practical. You might need more time to study, learn some new tactics and improve than you've given yourself. Thankfully, you don't have to make any decisions about rescheduling your Test Date just yet, but it would take a LOT of time and effort to raise your score up to the necessary level to hit 700+.

The concepts tested in DS are the same as those tested in PS so if you were able to manage PS well, it just means you are falling for the DS format traps. To remedy that, we have a book dedicated to DS and its soft copy is freely available here: http://www.veritasprep.com/gmat/

It's been 3 weeks since your original post - and I'm going to assume that you've been studying during that time. Have you taken any additional practice CATs (and if you have, then how did you score - including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each)?
