Question on Sloan Essays: 500 words, limited to 1 page [#permalink] New post   23 Aug 2008, 21:48
Hi all,

The MIT Sloan essays state that they should be 500 words or less, limited to one page. However an essay with almost 500 words (double spaced, 12 point font, 1 inch margins) goes over the one page limit. What methods do you guys recommend to meet the one page limit? Reduced spacing? Smaller font? Thinner margins? Thanks!

1.5 space, 11 font, stretch the margins, etc. Whichever one works for you.

Play with the fonts too if you can. 11 pt Arial is wider than 11 pt Times New Roman.

Is it expected that essays be double-spaced?

Double-spacing is hideous.

Thanks for the tips. I also am not a fan of double spacing, but always assumed that it was the norm. I could try for the more appealing 1.5 spacing with modified margins. Are there any font recommendations beyond Times New Roman and Arial?

See if either 11 pt Garamond or Palatino Linotype work? Don't use Arial if you're trying to reduce page coverage.
