The comparison is intended between the audience of books of Agatha Christie and those of any fiction author at the same point of time. Option C wrongly compares past audience of books of Agatha Christie and present audience of those of any fiction author.

In option E, the verb "have had" has been omitted by virtue of parallelism.

-- changes the meaning.

(E) than those of any other fiction author in history
-- correct answer.

. Placement of historically is wrong. Audience vs fiction author comparison.

Past vs present comparison.

Quote:
(D) in history as any other fiction author has had.
Instead of comparison, similarity is used.

Quote:
(E) than those of any other fiction author in history
correct

The books of AC have had a greater audience than "have had" books of any other fiction author in history.

here as we are comparing books and we have greater in the non underlined . we need to use than .
Also as the coparision is between books that are plural we need to use those after than. simple way to get to the correct answer in the least possible time
