Hi anshul,

Lets assume number of male:m
Numbe of female:w

Hence from given question stem, total height of m men = 72 *m
Similarly total height of w women = 66*w

Therefore, average height of combined group, A = $$(72m +66w)/(m+w)$$

but we are given that average height of group is 70, hence A=70

$$=> 70 = (72m +66w)/(m+w)$$
$$=>70m+70w = 72m+66w$$
$$=>2m = 4w$$
$$=>m/w=2:1$$

Tried this question on intuition , since the average of both is 2 points below than the male's average, so male number might be more than that of female.

Solving, backwards (starting from the answer choice) and starting from the easiest.
(1) 2:1

total average=
(72x2+66x1)/3=210/3=70 i.e the given combined average.

Sometimes, when you are stuck....back-solving works
