Ratio of two numbers x and y is 3:5. If x is increased by 20% and y is [#permalink]
6/5x/(y+8)=2/5➡3y=9x-24
3y=5x
substituting, 9x-24=5x
x=6
y=10
2y:(x+6)=5:3

Ratio of two numbers x and y is 3:5. If x is increased by 20% and y is increased by 8 then the new ratio becomes 2:5. what is the ratio 2y:(x+6)

A. 2:5
B. 3:5
C. 4:5
D. 5:3
E. 10:3

( 120/100 * 3Z ) / ( 5Z + 8 ) = 2 / 5
=> 90Z = 50Z +80
=> 40Z = 80
=> Z = 2

X = 3*2 = 6
Y = 5*2 = 10

2*10 / ( 6 + 6 )
=20 / 12
=5/3

We are given that x : y = 3n : 5n.

Since x is increased by 20%, x = 1.2(3n) = 3.6n. Since y is increased by 8, y = 5n + 8. And now we have:

3.6n/(5n + 8) = 2/5

5(3.6n) = 2(5n + 8)

18n = 10n + 16

8n = 16

n = 2

Since n = 2, x = 3(2) = 6 and y = 5(2) = 10, and 2y : (x+6) = 20 : 12 = 5 : 3.

Re: Ratio of two numbers x and y is 3:5. If x is increased by 20% and y is [#permalink]
6x/5 / y+ 8 = 2/5

((6x/5) x 5)) = 2y + 16
x = 2y + 16 / 6

x/y = 3/5 ---> x = 3y/5

3y/5 = (2y + 16) / 6
y = 10

x = 3(10) / 5 = 6

2y / x + 6 = 2(10) / 6 + 6 = 5/3

Answer is D.
