The answer must be (B) for correct use of parallelism...

Regular meditation enables practitioners to build calmer minds, resulting from reduction in stress, to maintain happier dispositions, and to increase emotional stability.

+1 for B.

A. resulting from reduction in stress, maintaining --> Not parallel
B. resulting from reduction in stress, to maintain --> Correct, parallel construct, -ing clause refers to the calm minds before the comma
C. resulting from reduction in stress, maintain --> Not parallel
D. stress reduction’s result, maintaining --> Not parallel
E. to result in reduction in stress, to maintain --> Changes meaning

Hence, B.

Regular meditation enables practitioners to build calmer minds, resulting from reduction in stress, maintaining happier dispositions, and to increase emotional stability.

A. resulting from reduction in stress, maintaining
Wrong. In the parallelism, to could be omitted, but in this case it is insert because it appears also in the non underlined portion. So maintaining needs to be in infinite, "to maintain"

B. resulting from reduction in stress, to maintain
Correct. The -ing form is an addiction that modifies the first element of the parallelism. To maintain is present.

C. resulting from reduction in stress, maintain
As A

D. stress reduction’s result, maintaining
As A, moreover the modifier is not clear

E. to result in reduction in stress, to maintain
Illogical meaning. to result in reduction in stress is meaningless

Regular meditation enables practitioners to build calmer minds, resulting from reduction in stress, maintaining happier dispositions, and to increase emotional stability.

Regular meditation enables practitioners to do three things:

1. to build calmer mind --- How ? by reducing stress. Here participle phrase (adverbial phrase) "Resulting from reduction in stress" is modifying verb "enables" to show how stress reduction helps building calmer mind.

2. to maintain happier dispositions

3. to increase emotional stability

A. resulting from reduction in stress, maintaining

Here "resulting and maintaining" both are modifying verb "enables" but this changes the meaning.

B. resulting from reduction in stress, to maintain

C. resulting from reduction in stress, maintain

//ism error : to build, maintain, and to increase are not parallel

D. stress reduction’s result, maintaining

//ISM issue and passive tone

E. to result in reduction in stress, to maintain

"enables to result" is incorrect.

B. resulting from reduction in stress, to maintain
C. resulting from reduction in stress, maintain
D. stress reduction’s result, maintaining
E. to result in reduction in stress, to maintain

Official Explanation:

Parallelism + Meaning

"build calmer minds", "maintain happier dispositions" and "increase emotional stability" are all benefits of meditation and should be parallel in form. "resulting from reduction of stress" is a modifier for "calmer minds" and this relationship should be maintained.

A. "maintaining" is not parallel with "to build" and "to increase".
B. Correct, Parallelism and modifier are fine.
C. "maintain" is not parallel with "to build" and "to increase".
D. "maintaining" is not parallel with "to build" and "to increase". "stress reduction’s result" is an awkward modifier.
E. "to result..." is incorrect as the intended modifier becomes parallel to the benefits in form, leading to the incorrect suggestion that it is a benefit too. "enables practitioners...to result in reduction in stress" is illogical.

This question is a very poor question. You cannot have RESULTING FROM after a comma. The mighty Ron purewal himself said so.It also makes sense.Comma+ verbing describes the previous clause. You cannot describe what comes after the comma+verbing with what comes before it.It does not make sense at any level.

For more on this see rons explanation on the manhattan forum for the question “a study of food resources in the north pacific”...

Thanks..
