i do a combination of both - if the rephrasing seems too tricky i try and not use it and just do it normally

I'll rephrase as much as I can. Especially with inequalities -- I've been pleasantly surprised by how much rephrasing a complicated question can set up. Sometimes the DS answers are exactly what my rephrasing points to (e.g., (1) x 3)
