GMAT in Dec 2008 - 610. Will be writing again in next 2-3 months, expecting a score of 670-680. My post MBA goal is to join a BB I bank in M&A – IBD division preferably in SGP/HK. I don’t want to do an MBA just because I need one to move up in career and do it from some university. I want to do it from the best and the most reputed institute in the world, where learning is a focus and diversity is well regarded. I want to learn and contribute to such an environment.

Please let me know your opinion on my profile on the basis of current achievements and GMAT
Do you think my chances would improve significantly if I improve my GMAT by 60 -70 points? How much of my international experience of working in 24 -28 countries coupled with my leadership experience would be of interest to LBS/INSEAD and how much will they appreciate it while deciding my candidature.

You have a very impressive background and frankly what appears to be some very competitive professional preparation for top b-schools. The only hole I see might be in your GMAT, which will be in comparison, far below the average at the top schools and most definitely below the average for the typical I-banker, consultant, finance applicant. If you can work hard to get this score up, I would put you against any top applicant. The good news is, your extensive WE, leadership and community involvement could certainly overcome a weaker GMAT as long as you write it up in a compelling way. Another thing to consider is the EMBA programs at the top schools, where they typically see applicants with 8-10 years experience. sounds like you might be a potential candidate for these programs, some of which do not even require the GMAT. The good part about EMBA programs is you can keep working and earning an income while you go to school, and when you graduate, you receive the regular MBA degree that the full time students receive. Hope this helps answer your question.
