Hi,
I just gave GMAT yesterday (15th Feb'14) and scored 650 (Q49, V29). Verbal score was surprising for me though. Given below is some background on how I prepared and what I am planning to do next. I think, I am in need of some guidance from people in this forum. Would really appreciate, if some of you can help me resolve certain queries and give your advice.
Background:
I was first introduced to GMAT on 15th Dec'13, and since then have been preparing for it till yesterday (15th Feb). I prepared using materials mentioned below.
I)
OG 13 and
OG verbalII)
Manhattan booksIII) Advanced Manhattan Quant
On the test series side, I took 6 Manhattan tests to prepare myself, usually one test on every saturday or sunday in these two months. Test results are as follow.
MGMAT 1 on 12 Jan :
610 (Q41, V31)MGMAT 2 on 25 Jan :
640 (Q45, V33)MGMAT 3 on 1 Feb :
640 (Q48, V31)MGMAT 4 on 2 Feb :
670 (Q48, V33)MGMAT 5 on 8 Feb :
680 (Q46, V36)MGMAT 6 on 14 Feb :
610 (Q46, V29) - Bad score, specially on V Day
Actual GMAT 15 Feb : 650 (Q49, V29)Queries:
My GMAT verbal score is contradictory to what I used to get while solving
OG questions (both
OG 13 and Verbal). I used to get >= 80% correct across CR, SC and about 70% for RC. I had considered 2 mins time per question while solving them. Despite all these, I scored too low in actual GMAT verbal. Are
OG questions that easy or I am missing something here?
I found that actual GMAT Quant questions are easy when compared with
MGMAT Quant questions, but what about Verbal comparison? My score trend should be indicating that "for me" actual GMAT verbal was tougher than
MGMAT verbal!! However, to be frank, I didn't find those questions that tough. May be I wrongly answered actual GMAT questions in a bulk (4 or 5 wrong answers together). The only explanation I could think of for sudden drop in Verbal score is that
MGMAT question type are not very much aligned with actual GMAT. Is that true?
Next Step:
I might plan to give re-exam in a month or two. Given that I have exhausted all questions from
MGMAT test series,
OG 13 and
OG verbal with more accuracy, what material should I use now to prepare for this re-exam?
Just to add I gave free practice test of Veritas Prep on 12th Jan and scored 690 (Q40, V35). In general, is this test series more closer to actual GMAT, especially for verbal? How reliable is Veritas Qbank? It seems pretty good to me though. But you already know my background, so what is your view on this? At best I might take there test series, given that I have already gone through
MGMAT test series and
OG ques banks.
Any suggestions are most welcome and will be much appreciated.
